Got 15lbs of boiled crawfish last night. What a disappointment.

Every crawfish tasted a different kind of awful. How is that possible. Some tasted like water. Some like sugar. None had spice. A bunch had dirty grit in the tails. Some were yellow. Most were dry.

Don't buy their boiled crawfish. I have no idea how the rest of their food is; but this meal was a 60$ dud.

In all fairness, size was great. I think that's why it pissed me off so bad. Great potential; shitty product.

My favs:
Louisiana seafood (by a big margin)
Tramontes
???

Anyone have another rec for when these two are either closed or have a line out the door?

Why didn't you ask to sample a few before you bought them?

Instead, after buyer's remorse you come here belly aching like a girl. Did you post this to fb and instagram too?

Lol. I should have asked. I realized that when I was throwing away most of them. I ASSumed that a business couldn't screw up boiled crawfish that bad.

I am posting to save others the trip there for crawfish.

60$ for shitty crawfish. No bellyaching. Just a warning.

I don't have FB so

Why not? You afraid you might not like them and have an uncomfortable exchange following?

I eat it quite a bit. The Panko shrimp and fries...the chicken tenders are awesome.....the fried pork chops and red beans...most everything in there is good...and you're gonna be full when you get done eating. But they do have good boiled crawfish, shrimp, crabs, and crab legs.

I know the people he's referring to. A lot of... Um... Trash.. Go to tonys and ask to sample several items and then leave.

If you have no history with a vendor and plan on making a substantial purchase, I consider it "due diligence" to ask for a small sample.

If you lump me in with "the people he's referring to", then what does that make you?

Ive just never gone up to a restaurant or food service counter and asked to try the food before I buy it.

I would feel a little uncomfortable going into Popeyes and asking to try a chicken tender before I chose to buy some

Presumptuous much?

We've been stuck in line behind rude women twice at Tony's barking at the employees for their samples of several items and then leaving. That's all I'm saying. How that involves you at all is beyond me.

FWIW, i got crawfish from a new place yesteday. My first one, I immediately thought "wow, they're just straight heat.. Love it". By crawfish number 5,it was straight salt the rest of the way through. One crawfish really isn't going to determine much for me.

And while I don't think there's anything wrong with tasting a crawfish before buying, I find it funny that it's so accepted with that and not with other food items. Furthermore, I think blaming someone for buying a product without taste testing is silly.

Of course you would since this is nothing like the situation being discussed.

A chicken franchise that is ubiquitous vs. Marty J's. $5.00 risked at one of the most famous franchise restaurants in the country vs $60.00 risked at a mom and pop restaurant on an item that is highly variable in quality.

Seems legit.

Ok.

How about the countless gas stations across the state that serve food in them, including fried chicken, seafood, and LA style dishes. Is it cool for me to ask for samples from these places when I go in? I have no idea if the food is good there.

Please, it's really easy to decipher what you were alluding to. Asking for a sample before you spend $60.00 at an unfamiliar place is nothing like the situation you described.

Regardless, OP had shitty crawfish. Whether he taste tested and decided they were shitty... Or brought them home and decided they were shitty... He still decided they were shitty so I'd say the thread still makes sense/is warranted for its purpose

Again, how much money are you risking? It's really not that hard to comprehend, is it?

And how much of that gas station chicken are you buying, $60.00?

This is certainly true.

Sure, but I was simply pointing out to him that he really didn't have to endure the shitty crawfish if he had politely asked for a small sample prior to laying down his substantial money. You can do this with out being one of "those people" you see at Tony's.

If its that big of a risk, buy a pound and go to your car and try it.

Im just wondering where you draw the line. What other foods do you consume that you ask the business for a sample before you make a purchase.

Do you ask for samples in a restaurant when you go out to eat?
