Heading there Friday night for the first time ever. It's the girlfriends birthday that night and I've always heard great things. Any certain things we should be trying? Thanks in advance!

I recommend getting there at least an hour before your reservation. Go to the Turtle Bar and get a drink, walk around the grounds a little, chat with the bartender and or other guest. There is a lot there to see.

I have never had anything I did not enjoy there...

The chefs tasting menu is awesome, pair it with the wine tasting and call for a ride home

If you don't do the tasting menu some of my favorites
The crawfish pumpkin curry bisque
The crab and beet salad
Abita shrimp app
For the main course, hard to go wrong my favorite was the veal, but the lobster and the lamb chops were outstanding as well
enjoy

Have always done the tasting menu.

The rack of lamb is always pretty damn good, Crawfish Curried Bisque, Duck Breast, Foie Gras on Lost Bread.

Second the turtle bar idea

You need a ride home if you do tasting menu with wine...

I may or may not have taken a two hour nap after doing this one night. They offer B&B now, well worth it.

There is nothing on the menu I wouldn't order again. I always leave satisfied (and surprisingly, have yet to do the chefs tasting menu).

Best filet in BR area IMHO. Only bad thing I can think of is that the mango crabcake was not on point last time I went but is usually slammin.

One of you should get the pumpkin crawfish bisque for sure.

We just went to Houmas House on Sunday to work on a photography class project and ate at the Carriage House restaurant. Everything was really nice. Wife had the Zappe's Potato chip crusted grouper and I had the cassolet.

The Carriage House restaurant is a very beautiful reproduction that has the feel of a 19th century building. I think I like the atmosphere in this restaurant better than Latil's.

I have eaten at the main restaurant a couple of times and their food is very good and consistent as well. I would think Chef Langlois (I think that's his name) sets the tone at both places.

Can't go wrong here.

Bonus: The Turtle Bar has Pappy and Macallan (sp) 60.

What wick says.

Speaking of, Uncle Wick--planning on being back your way soon to hang with our friends. We need to get together and have some bourbon(s).

Latil's is one of my favorites. Foie Gras, Lobster, Rack of Lamb, and Banana Foster Split are my favorites.

It's really hard to go wrong over there. Most everything is fantastic. Definitely recommend the turtle bar. The duck, Crawfish curry bisque and crab and beet salad are a few of my favorites.

I got married at Houmas House in 2010 and still pisses me off to this day that I didnt have time to eat all the badass food we had selected. We were so busy talking and thanking guests that we never got a bite, except for when we cut our cakes. bullshite I tell ya

I've neveR seen a wedding not prepare to-go baskets for the bride and groom. They didn't do that for you?

Hell, some even pack up all the leftover food to be taken back to the parents' house.

I think they may have offered, but we were staying in a hotel and didnt really want to mess with a whole bunch of leftovers. Plus, I and all the guests were from out of town.

Absolutely this. And they have a bar stocked with what are some relative rarities in our parts of the world. And the food is outstanding-Jeremy cranks out some really quality product.

Thanks for all the responses. Looking forward to dinner tonight. If they have the tasting menu, I think we may go that route.
