Me and the gf went to KA last night on Shephard and 19th. Place hasn't officially opened yet, but they have been doing a soft opening for a few weeks and it's been crowded. The place isn't very big and there was a 20 min wait at the table but a few seats at the bar and we were starving so we sat there.

Drinks: They have a huge selection of Japanese whiskey which I love. She got a glass of wine which had a mediocre selection. I usually get sake and they had a selection of about 15 of these but passed last night. The specialty drink list had 6 or 7 cocktails and they all looked phenomenal.

Food: Since it is still a soft opening they only had part of the menu available. For apps we got brussel sprouts which were very good, almost as good as the ones at uchi. They put the good sauce on the bottom so make sure you stir them up before eating. We also got a pork belly over asparagus plate. Pork belly was tender and cooked perfectly but could have used a little more seasoning. There were a lot more small plates that looked very good but that's all we tried. The sushi was kind of a let down, not because of flavor, the rolls were phenomenal and nigiri was very fresh. The portion sizes were very disappointing. The rolls were very small and nigiri was very thin cut. For the same price at other places around town you get much more bang for your buck. I'm curious to see if that continues when they open fully for business.

Atmosphere: It's small but seemed like a good place to grab a quick drink or bite to eat at the bar. Half the places to sit are along the bar which was a bit noisy so if you are trying to have a quiet dinner I wouldn't recommend it. Bonus: Hot little asian bartender.

FYI the unofficial grand opening is this sunday and all checks are 12% off until then apparently.

Nice review. I felt the same after we tried it out. Everything was great, but portion sizes were a bit small.

One thing's for sure though...KA then some ice cream at Fat Cat's is a panty dropper.
