Canned crab meat? The first thing to do with stuff that isn't "fresh, local" is look at the country of origin. If it is from outside the US don't even think about it. If it has been frozen, then the best way to defrost it is placing it in a steamer, on low, and peel it away bit by bit, every few minutes.
