We’ve got a house on the lake for a week, and looking for some dining suggestions beyond DeLuca’s. Anything we can boat to for lunch would be a plus. We’ll have our toddler with us, so limit your suggestions accordingly.

Friend,

You answered your own question. Deluca for every meal while there is the correct one. They serve a top ten pizza in the world and easily the best pizza in the South. Their salads are great. Their hamburgers are the best I’ve had outside the Magazine Whole Foods smoked burger.

Fisherman’s Wharf is the most popular restaurant with a dock and it is fine. Completely forgettably decent food served at premium is how I would describe it. I got a steak Oscar for I think $50 and it was not even prime. The crab was pitiful lump rather than jumbo and worst of all they served it with Texas toast. It tasted fine, but it was overpriced for Sam’sClub quality beef. We tried several other restaurants in town and each one was a disappointment. Each time we had a subpar meal elsewhere we said to each other, “We should have eaten at Deluca.”

If you are in the area the trip to Mountain Valley is not as spectacular as you might imagine. Mother and I excitedly drove the 20-30 minutes north to the actual spring. We hoped to drink directly from the source. We entered the bottling plant and no one greeted us. It was very much like a truck stop with big rigs coming and going. The museum in town was even better. It would seem that they are missing out on a great tourism opportunity there. On the bright side, there is a decent Walmart practically across the street.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Friend,

Your insight is appreciated, as always. Alas, we cannot eat at DeLuca’s for every meal, as they are only open from Wednesday through Sunday. Give Mother our best.

Was visiting friends in the area and they took me to Phil's.

When I travel I like to eat at local places and this was a good choice.

If you have any excuse to go up to the Village area, stop by Home Plate. We did breakfast there on our way out to a mine and it was the best meal we had on our whole trip.

Steinhaus Keller has a good sausage platter. For brewhouses: Superior Bathhouse had good beer and okay food. SQZBX had shitty beer but the pizza was better than anything we had at Superior.

I can't second this enough. My wife and I ate here and while we were the only ones under 60, the food was so good.

That is every place up there, and they all close at 8:00.

For Breakfast the Best Cafe and Bar is awesome. In an old motel that has been redone. Great cocktails and eggs benedict is one of the best I've ever had.

Absolutely McClards BBQ. Started eating there in the '70's and still have the sauce shipped in for cooking here in BR....

On the water, you can go to Fisherman's Wharf, Bubba Brews, Sam's Pizza, Back Porch Grill, and 501 Lakeside (haven't been personally, but hear good things about food trucks).

If you want pretty good, inexpensive Mexican food where it's easy to get seated, there is Jose's on Hwy 7 south of town (not on water).

The Waters Hotel has a nice rooftop for drinks.
