Outside of Baton Rouge I like the Country Kitchen restaurant in Gonzales. It is a buffet of down-home cooking.

Golden Corral on Sherwood Forrest is good. They have a chocolate waterfall that you can dip things in. It is really nice.

EDIT: I have no clue if it survived or if it's open if it did, but Randazzo's Italian Market in Denham is pretty legit.
