Meeting a girl for a blind date this weekend, looking for a spot to have a drink/appetizers in the downtown area. Would like a place that is upscale, but not too stuffy. A nice bar area would be perfect. Is Little Village something along these lines? Any place with outdoor seating?

You haven't even seen a pic of her? That is brave. Report back & let us know how it goes!

I've seen pics and texted, but never met.

I think Tsunami may be a little over the top for a first date. We are both in mid 30's and divorced- upscale but not pretentious.

I guess I should add I'm not a fan of sushi, lol. Stroubes looks nice- will check the others as well

Well then Stroubes and Blend are off the list as well.

I would argue that little village is more pretentious than Tsunami.

Tsunami is not pretentious. It's usually loud, they play lounge music, and you could wear shorts if you wanted.

I guess I wasn't as good with my word choice as I should have been. Pretentious wouldn't be the right word- I don't mind a nice place, but Tsunami (sushi) isn't really what I'm looking for

Yeah this is why I was a bit confused with his statement.

It's not over the top if you want to make a good first impression. Just because it's nice doesn't mean it's pretentious.

The new Magpie does cocktails and small plates until 10. Sit at the bar.

Little Village is way too pretentious for a first date, screams showing off. Tsunami is perfect, especially if the weather is nice.

If you're not limited to downtown, Pinetta's by the overpass is just about perfect for a first date. It's romantic, great atmosphere, food is fantastic, and the prices don't break the bank.

Never understand the love for that place. My grandmother's basement is cleaner than Pinetta's.

Your grandmother's basement doesn't have that red sauce

Outdoor seating with drinks/apps that's not Tsunami but ok for a nice, but not upscale, date downtown?

I'm thinking only Capital City Grill and Jolie Pearl meet all criteria, and you both better be into oysters if you do Jolie Pearl. Maybe Driftwood Cask and Barrel will be added to that list (their front windows open), but I don't know if they're serving food yet.
