I live in Alabama and have never been. Should I go and why or why not?

because it's FREE admission, great food options at the Festival or around town, weather is often perfect, solid music lineup on 5 stages x 4 days, the downtown area is easily walkable, and the stages are only 1-2 city blocks apart.

It kinda reminds me of City Stages that use to be held in B'ham in the early 90's - family friendly atmosphere

Good summary of why to go.

Another reason is to hear different kinds of music from other parts of the world.

I found it very interesting to see all the different styles of clothing worn by people from other countries. I use to live in Lafayette and went each year.

And the local "talent" women are nice to look at.

I would advise booking a place to stay... NOW. If you just need a room for yourself, you might be able to find someone renting out a room in their house for the festival

It's worth going, not only is it free but I'm always impressed by how modestly priced drinks/food is for a free festival, domestic beers are like $3.50, craft beers $5-$6, mixed drinks are like $6. Those are damn good prices.

Walk around, listen to some music you've never heard, eat and drink well, check out the artwork, etc. Try to catch a show at Blue Moon Saloon, occasionally some of the bigger acts will drop in and do a jam session.

Festival Acadien et Creoles in October is another great one worth checking out, basically Festival International but with a focus just on Cajun/Zydeco/Creole music. It's smaller, and at Girard Park, but also free, also great prices on food/drinks, etc.

Lots of stages
Not many normal festival attendees.
Lots of daytime fun, you dont have to stay all night, but thats an option.
Family oriented

Everyone pretty much covered it already. I live DT Lafayette, so I am pretty biased.

Might still be a few cool spots to rent out that are within walking distance.

Do it.

Same, up until a couple years ago we lived in Freetown and I miss being able to walk to the Festivals, parades, downtown, etc. Out of curiosity I checked AirBnB and it looks like there's still a few spots close in the $200/night range. Saw a few others swinging for the fence trying to get $1000/night.
