Genetics can affect the way people certain people taste different flavors, and i think I've got something genetic with regards to IPAs. I can get half of one down, but after that I'm scraping my tongue trying to get that taste off.
That being said, if I could get my hands on one of the world class IPAs (Pliny) out there, I'd surely get it down.

I use to not like them, then found that there are a couple of "gateway ipas" I started drinking those and have since re-visited beers I had previously not liked and thought were "too hoppy" and I now like them a lot.
Once your pallete adjusts I think you'll be good to go.
