And a porter tasting happened.

The porter brewed by Widmer Brothers was brewed by one of my co-workers who won a homebrewing contest and his beer is now a seasonal beer in Widmer's regular lineup.

ETA: My coworkers beer was very good. I had never tried it before (I didn't know the backstory about it being his recipe), and it is a summer porter, so I will have to wait until next year to get more.

Widmer's lineup could use some new blood.

FBD is a Be Hoppy IPA. This is good. Great citrus and pine hops with a nice bitter bite to it. Cheers to eastcoastcajun.

I have not been to the brewery, but several people who I respect have told me that they brew some really good experimental beers there that never get bottled. I should have gone there by now, but it's hard to do that when there are so many other choices in the area.

Say what you may about Widmer Bros. brewing, they are very much responsible for the brewing revolution that occurred 30 years ago in Portland. The McMenamin brothers, the Widmer brothers, and a few others got the laws relaxed regarding breweries and brewpubs and craft beer took off.

I need to go, if for no other reason than to pay my respects to the Widmers...

I tried lots from their regular lineup years ago when I was first getting into craft beer. Even with the limited choices back then, there were usually better options. I have not had a Widmer Bros beer in years. It is good to know that they do make some good stuff though.

Same here (besides the first batch). Thankfully they still have some left at the brewery.

Believe me, I won't be drinking their regular lineup. I suspect they keep that bland swill because it sells to the masses. Widmer is to Oregon as Abita is to Louisiana...

Damn, this Ex Novo Eliot is great. So fruity and aromatic--peaches and pineapple. So crisp and fine.

Fellas,

Wondering what the indicator of new devils harvest recipe is? Did they go back to the original full can labels? I saw a date on the six pack grasper but not the cans themselves.
