TBD double mountain 2015 peche mode wild ale

No pics because I'm sitting at a communal table and feel awkward.

I think I'm also surrounded by two different "first dates" and the eavesdropping is fricking awesome.

I moved. It was actually incredibly annoying. Every time I went to get a beer someone jumped in my seat. I found an old guy with ear buds at a table and asked if I could sit with him if I promised to leave him alone so people would stop taking my spot.

The pitfalls of solo travel. :'(

One couple was trying to one up each other on adventures (they were currently on new Zealand). The other two were discussing the positives of openly and honestly being assholes, rather than hiding it like the rest of the losers. I shite you not. This was the couple that made me exit that area.

Not sure where I am, but I'm pretty sure the assholes were not from here. They seemed to be judging the communal table concept as a "northwest" thing. This was shortly after I arrived and sat back in my chair next to the chick. I kind of wanted to tell the dude to frick himself but I just kept drinking.

Union St chuck's if that helps. There is two? I see chuck right now like I did the last two times I was here.

Jax-Tiger,

I'm heading to Portland on Saturday for a few days - would appreciate a few recommendations for spots to hit in the city (bars, restaurants, etc). Unfortunately, I've really only got 2 days to enjoy, so if you have a few favorites....

(Anyone else that wants to offer some recs, please do.)

Thanks.

Where are you staying?

This thread is anchored, so let's discuss in the FBD thread later today.

ETA: Tell me what types of beer you like and what area of town you will be in.

If you are in the Pearl District, go to 10 Barrel Brewpub and sit on the roof. If that doesn't float your boat, go to Fathead's and Deschutes. Both are within a few blocks of 10 Barrel. All have excellent beer and food.

If you would rather go to a taproom, Bailey's in the Pearl District is good, and it's 10 blocks from Deschutes. Even better than Bailey's, IMO is Apex Bar and The Beermongers, which are across the street from each other, and probably a couple of miles from 10 Barrel. The Loyal Legion only has Oregon beers on tap, but they have a great taplist. Loyal Legion is just a couple of blocks from Growler Guys (best place for growlers), Cascade Barrel House (for sours), and The Commons (farmhouse style).

If you're on the NE side, Belmont Station is a great place to pick up a few bottles, in addition to having a nice taplist. Great Notions is a new brewery that is fantastic. Tin Bucket, Saraveza, and Hop and Vine are all good, as well.

Thanks. I've been checking out your posts in the Travel board (where I should have posted in the first place). Not sure where I'm staying yet - it is a last minute thing for sure. At this point, I'm using Priceline and about to book a unnamed room in the "Downtown Portland - Pioneer Courthouse Square - Pearl District" for $172/night, which seems reasonable.

Forgot to answer your question about beer. I truly like all types and interested in trying whatever the different places do well. So your lists here and in the travel posts are great. Deschutes is #1 on my list to try (if for no other reason, that's one that I know will get me kudos from my beer friends here!)

Thanks again.

Deschutes has a sweet brewpub. Drink some of their one offs, and check and see if they have any BA beers for sale in bottles.

Fatheads is literally 2 blocks away, and if you like IPA's, that's a must. The rooftop bar at 10 Barrel has the best atmosphere, IMO, although it looks like we are getting our first real hotspell here, this weekend. May be close to 100 degrees, after it has been in the 70's all summer.
