I am going to Sandestin next month and I was looking for thoughts on some of the dining options there.
Anyone eaten at Bistro Bijoux?
I am only going to shoot for one nice meal while over there and I am thinking about just staying near the resort to make things simple.
Also considering making the run down to Commanders Palace. Any word on how that location is doing?
Any other recs for the east side of Destin?

Bistro Bijoux is great - one of the better restaurants in the area. If you wanna head east of destin, you can hit up Fish Out of Water in Watercolor or Cafe 30-A. Fish Out of Water is fast becoming one of my favorites - particularly because you can eat outside and hear/see the waves. Also, a very good place in destin (on the east side) is Beach Walk in the Inn at Crystal Beach. That used to be our favorite but we wore it out and we stay in the Santa Rosa beach area (got tired of driving into destin - which defeated the whole purpose of staying out on 30-A).

Yes, there is a newly opened Commanders' Palace.

Also, we had great, I mean great, Italian food a place called pasta grazi. For the dipping olive oil, they bring two heads of roasted garlic which they are holding with saran wrap and squeeze it into the olive oil. All of the food was fresh. I will go back every time I'm there.

stinkys fish camp on 30-A. Had a blackened ribeye on top of jalapeno cheese grits topped with a corn/okra macque choux, that was really good.

I had probably one of the best grouper dishes I've ever had this summer at Stinky's Fish Camp. I love that place. Very unassuming and very family friendly with awesome food.

Commanders Palace

This relatively new location for this famous restaurant is one word: amazing. I have personally been to the one in NOLA many times and also recently the location in Destin and I was very impressed with the Destin restaurant.

Basically they took a couple of extremely talented young chefs from the Brennan's Restaurants and gave them the shot of a lifetime to pick up the Commander's name in Destin....very good and the atmosphere of the Harbor Walk is nice as well.

+1 for AJs. Great food (everyone in my party enjoyed their food with the exception of stuffed crab) and a good time in the bar upstairs afterward

Cantina Laredo is also really good if you want mexican food. It is in the Grand Blvd Shopping Center in SanDestin. The wait might be long, but you can check out all the shops around there while you wait.

Also fwiw, if anybody suggests the Back Porch, I have to disagree. No AC and hot as hell at 8 at night. I don't even remember what I ordered or if it was any good b/c I was sweating my arse off so bad

If you pass through Navarre, Cocodries is good and Juana's is a pretty cool bar next door.

AJ's? I am very surprised to see that. I have eaten there twice and found the food to be mediocre at best and very overpriced.

Destin Chops

This place looked closed the last time I drove through Destin about a month ago.

Glad to hear all the good things about Commander's in Destin, I'll have to drive over and try it out soon.

Destin chops is strong. I like Harbor docks for their seafood and sushi. Also if you really like NY style Pizza, Helen Back in fort walton right under the brooks Bridge on the island is awesome. Local bar, sort of dumpy sports bar with live music, can pull your boat up to the back dock.

I'm going this weekend and I'll try some of the places listed here. Also, any word on the Camillia Grill opening there?
