Was into this as a sipping tequila several years ago. Then got into single malt scotch. Came back to the Casamigos Reposada tequila and it tastes different, too vanilla forward. What do you all recommend for a sipping Reposada tequila?

Casamigos is terrible, full of additives, and over priced

YMMV but I like Don Julio for this role.

Fortaleza is fantastic, but can be hard to find.
Lalo is a blanco, but sips like a repo.

I’m a big Clase Azul fan. There’s a couple of tequila threads here. Folks had some recommendations that were as good or better, but I can’t find em here in Alabama.

Don Julio private cask is really good. It’s also readily available.

Also full of additives and grossly overpriced

What are the additives in this stuff? I always knew that. Clase Azul stuff and that George Clooney brand were probably gimmicky, but what are we talking about?

You should find a good tequila without all the additives. You can do way better for half the price.

Sweeteners and flavoring. You’re paying a massive premium for a bastardized and fake version of the product. But it sells to the masses.

Tequila ocho is a good choice, a bit more expensive but still under $100. Cimarron Reposado is my go to daily, just bought a bottle today. One of my favorite sipping tequilas is maestro dobel reposado.

That’s a great one… $30-40 for a liter. Decent straight, and perfect for mixing

Espolon and 1800 are both solid tequilas for under $35.

This one is indeed fantastic.

I find the Cimarron a tad harsh, but it’s the best stuff a little store near me carries so I often end up having a bottle on hand. It’s good for mixing for sure.

If you enjoy scotch , try the anejo or extra anejo. If you enjoy heavy peat scotches , try the anejo mezcal’s.

Total wines has a brand called El Padrino. I attended two tequelia tastings there in the last year. The anejo beat everything both times in blind tastings. It’s really good. Extremely smooth, very light smoke. The extra anejo is even better , but costs 30$ more. It’s not worth the spend to me.
