I box this board with light gloves.

Food brings out some pretty raw emotions with people, and when their food is attacked they take it personally.

With that said, this is the most civil board on td.com.

oh yeah .. it is .. but i never understood how pretentious people can get on this board .. every person on this board has unique tastes .. every person on this board brings a unique perspective to this place .. yet, some still try to be the food and drink board network star here .. if you are going to play the star .. at least be able to actually cook ..

I will have to go back and revisit the thread. Seeing who the OP was, I just skimmed through and didn't give it much thought.

I am tired of his shite on the FDB and mention it often. No reason to be a dick. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything. The OT is different of course, but there Is no need for being a prick over here.

My approach with this board:

Lurk until I am interested in something.

Post if I know something.

Ask a question politely if I need to know something.

If it is a steak thread, well...open season.

I have never made a gumbo from scratch either, so I did the sensible thing and didn't comment on it. My wife is picky and doesn't eat it so I usually stick to making things she will eat.

I love to eat gumbo, just never made one.

it's kind of like someone posting for years on the OT about the 95 MPH fast ball and 12 to 6 curve ball they can still throw and lecturing people on mechanics .. they poo poo anything anyone else has to say on the subject .. then, one day, they obliviously post a video of themselves pitching .. and they are throwing like a girl ..

He didn't get his roux dark enough. That was the biggest problem.

When you shortcut the first step, that's not a good sign of what's to come.

Just sayin'.

Two things I never do, halfass the roux or make sausage look like rabbit pellets.

Pretty much my philosophy as well.

making one from scratch isn't easy .. so if you can't make one, don't parade around here like you're a five-star food critic and your kitchen contents would make wolfgang puck jealous ..

I guess I'll make an exception to trash some gumbo once in a while.

i don't trash gumbos myself .. i have had all kinds and variations and find some good in almost all of them .. but, i expected that to be as advertised and look like a chef paul cookbook layout ..

based on the fact that he actually started that thread on here, i am going to go with oblivious .. as in he believes the shite he posts on here ... i think he's good poster overall .. i think he is a really good baseball poster .. he really doesn't need a schtick, that's the bad thing ..

My MIL gave me one of his first cookbooks that had the two page spread that shows the different kind of rouxs suggested for the type of gumo you're making.

The Joy of Cooking, maybe?
