Went there last night. I'm pretty cynical about the dining establishments in Houma but I was pleasantly surprised.

I didn't get too brave with my order and just got a grilled beef tenderloin. It came with bernaise, some grilled asparagus, and your choice of a starch (I chose wild rice with leeks) (all for 34 dollars)

Anyway I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the steak. In fact it's good enough where I don't think I'll ever pay premium price for a steak at an ala carte high end steak place. It was easily on par with a place like Ruth's Chris or Flemings.

I'm looking forward to trying some of their apps and seafood dishes in the future.

What did you order?

I wouldn't be shocked if they're not diverse. It is Houma after all

Here are my posts:

I’ve gotta say, I was not impressed. Went two weeks ago. Food was good but not for $175/couple. I’m not saying I’m anti-spending that much at a restaurant, but a) there need to be at least semi-generous portions and b) it better be awesome. The Lobster bisque was mediocre at best. The steak was a little over cooked but really good, as were the potatoes. The cheesecake for dessert was good certainly not worth $10 in portion size or quality (was the size of a dixie cup you use for mouth wash).
Overall I give the food quality 7-8/10 (would be 8-9/10 but the soup really disappointed me).
Just my thoughts. I’ve been wrong before…
__________
I had the lobster bisque, the ribeye with wild rice and leeks, and the cheesecake.
For comparison, i’d say i’d have been disappointed with that soup at Chili’s, the steak was probably a little better than outback, and the desert was on par with something you’d expect at probably an outback type restaurant.
I also tried the scallops and they were kinda slimy.
I REALLY wanted this place to be on par with Galitoirs or Jubans but i’m disappointed to say it wasn’t.
(also, ambiance would by probably 9/10 as this was a very nice restaurant)
Also, let me clear up, the $175 included tip. was $148 for food, less tax that’s about $137. Drinks were about $10 ea. x 4, soup was $10, desserts + one coffee was about $20, my steak was $36 I think, so that’s $30 for the wife’s dish.
________

Disregarding any food quality comments, thoughts on the prices in general? $10 for a cocktail or dessert?
__________

now, i didn't edit it but i can say that i'd probably lower the ambiance to 7-8 and the food quality to 6-7 after being to a few other really good restaurants...

Well I didn't have any apps or desserts (and I'll admit I thought the desserts were pretty pricey)

I did enjoy the steak however and the wild rice was pretty solid

I guess my main point is that if I’m going to pay that much at a restaurant it better be awesome. And this place was far from it. I’d say it was on par with a good night at outback. Not saying it was bad, just not all it was cracked up to be.

also i must have left this out as well:

quote:

Like I said, I LOVE great food and don’t mind paying. But if I’m spending that much, I better walk out of there asking “When can i come back?”
That’s the first thing I thought when we left… “How can Houma sustain a place like this?”
Take away drinks and dessert and that’s still $100+. I don’t know if Houma has people that will keep this place busy every night for $100/couple. Much less for $175…

Now I'm starting to think you're a typical Houma resident

There is no way it was as terrible as outback

I went a couple of months ago and had a great meal there (grandmother's treat so not sure of the price).

Quail appetizer, rack of lamb, creme brulee and a few martinis. Nice atmosphere and great service, I'd love to go back.

White trash that gets pregnant before marriage?

The place is a fricking industrial park. Don't pretend that it's not.

That’s my point. Houma’s not a social hub yet this place thinks it can charge that amount of money for that quality food? Give me a break.

The price was reasonable IMO

Then again I was pretty pleased with my food. I haven't tried anything else

I can say that the steak was on par with Ruth's Chris easily

Maybe they've improved since your last visit

I don’t consider $175 reasonable for average to above average dining in H-town. Then again, I don’t sling the cash like you…

And I don't see how you could spend that much there unless you normally blow 95 at Chilis

Here’s a breakdown from earlier in this thread that I posted:

Don’t think it was “all out splurging” but it was a valentine’s dinner…

I’d say my normal bill at a chili’s type restaurant would be no more than $35 including tip.

Why get so offended? I like some things about Houma but man if you can't see the huge amount of white trash in this town you're crazy
