Anyone know the lowdown on the new Burger Delight? It looks like they just opened up on Hwy 42 near the library as a drive-thru. I saw there was a line backed up onto the highway last night as I drove past. Curious if original owners and product? The long line suggested it was.

I didn't know they'd re-opened. The old one had the best root beer floats, but they possibly set the record for health code violations in the parish (competing with El Mescal).

I will be monitoring this thread closely to find out.

I heard they purchased both the name and recipes from the original owners

That's like 3rd hand info, so take it fwiw

Surprised they sold the name outside the family unless the Griffin Grill relatives just didnt want it. Will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

Griffin Grill sure is a close representation, but this location is closer to my abode. I also think GG is a bit pricey. 2 regular hamburgers and 2 fries (no drinks) runs ~$18. Not that it isn't worth it to me, but still seems a bit rich for what it is.

As far as 3rd hand info, I was also told it was the old bayhop building relocated. That building was brick on slab so I sincerely doubt that is accurate. I would have stopped last night, but the line was ~10 cars deep and I didn't have cash. They may take a card, but I wasn't waiting in line to find out they don't.

It is, I watched them move it

Do not see why anyone would open a business on 42, knowing that road construction is coming and it will be a nightmare.

Always liked burger delight for what it was, hope they still have real soft serve ice cream

Is definitely the old bay hop building.

I may have a few of the facts screwed up, not a first hand story from me, but the GG owner/cook also had his hand in making the food for burger delight everyday. Thought I remember it being said that when he scaled back his involvement on Airline they shut down.

Maybe is is really just a GG expansion by that owner.

I thought the GG owner was the brother of Burger Delight owner and they used all the same recipes?

I have heard the same, relatives of some sort. Not sure if Burger Delight has a new owner now though.

It IS the old Bay Hop building! I saw it when they were moving it down there. It took them several months to remodel it after they moved it.

Burger Delite and Griffen Grill are my cousins

Griffen was always going to be better because Paul ran BD for years before he got fed up with the ability to change.

I'll get the lowdown on the new BD, because I bet that Millard's wife (original starter of BD) would destroy someone before giving up those recipes.

Source: family members and I worked there for a summer.

ETA: if anyone ever had to deal with the abrasive lady at the window with the graying honeycomb, it was my grandma

What is the Bay Hop Building?

I'm not originally from Gonzales but live here now. Enjoyed the few years I got to have Burger Delight.

The carwash at 42 & old Jefferson had a little burger joint attached called bay hop. The building was moved for this new place.

Exit: Ragin beat me.

read this on here a while back. Went to griffin grill and was severely disappointed. No way the buger at that place was in the same league with burger delight.
