Ran across this little gem today around lunchtime so I checked it out. No pics but plenty on her website. Place is run by some old black woman named, you guessed it Betty.

I had the Creole Catfish, fried cat topped with crawfish etouffee. Nice and spicy, loaded with crawfish. People were walking out the door with chitterling plate after chitterling plate. Never tried em, and she convinced me to try a small side order, on the house. The flavor of the juice/gravy or whatever it's called was incredible but the texture of the chit was no not for me. WOuld eat a plate of the rice and juice again.

Homemade cakes that looked great .Plenty of pics on her website. LINK /

Said she opened last september. She's on the corner of plank & hooper, next to La Bella Noche. Place used to be some old alcoholics bar if I recall. Really nice inside not your typical dump you might be expecting. Open on sundays which is nice.

On par with Dorothy's Soul Food on Gardere. Much better than poppa's on airline. A great addition to fat boy dining. Check it out. Ol girl even takes Apple Pay.

I love Dorothy's. If this place is on par w/ that, then I'll definitely have to check it out.

I beat off to memories of eating at Silvermoon. Crossing the tracks was a weekly ritual. Followed momma to chimes street and then out to st gabriel. Sadly she lost all her old arse pots and pans that held the secret flavor, also lost her one serving spoon that scooped every plate of beans and gravy. Used to eat at her house on BR ave when she started serving there. She still does from time to time but you gotta call ahead and see if she is that day. Would see some big wigs there at here house eating, shared a table with Hillar Moore on more than one occasion.

There will never be a place in this town that good. Her beans and black eyes were heavenly. Little know secret, her meatloaf was made with ground turkey. Damnit now i am tumescent.

Sorry I can't disclose that info. She doesn't really want a bunch of "unknowns" stopping by there. I got the address from her years back when I ran into her at WD

I've had lunch in her garage apartment and even her main dining room with Hillar and Sid more than a couple of times. Did you get a copy of her cookbook? I doubt the veracity of some of the recipes because there's no lard listed. I'd always say, "Momma, you make this with lard?", she'd always say "no honey, that's made with love". Dammit, now I feel the need to call her and go get something smothered next week

No didn't get the cookbook, have leafed thru it and the lard thing came to mind too...and YES that's Momma when asked about the lard.

You might remember her nephew Ken, tall dude that worked at the original location taking orders. He was a musician and play some sort of horn, anyway he has had a gig with this band out of New Orleans, like an 8 piece, they had a regular gig at a gulf port casino and did live after 5 last year. the name escapes me.
