In Puerto Rico for the week and very unimpressed with hotel recs on day 1. Anyone have any recommendations to check out?

Marmalade was one of the best meals of my life. The white bean soup lived up to the hype. I still remember a drink at the bar before supper called "global warming". Was a refreshing blue cocktail with an ice ball in it, but the ice ball was chili infused water so as it melted it got spicy. Seems simple now, but blew my mind.

El Bate in Old Town San Juan has a lot of history. Hemingway and his crew hung out there. Kind of a dive bar with good drinks. Enjoy.

I second Marmalade. Jose Enrique. L’Osteria. Oceano. Santaella.

Was there for Thanksgiving. Jose Enrique was great. Went twice.
Best meal was Vianda. Outstanding food and service was perfect. Vianda is only restaurant in PR on Resy if looking for reservations.
Deaverdura in Old Town is casual PR food that was really good. Choice of 5 or 6 fresh juices - some interesting ones- with rum is a good starter.
1919 at the Vanderbilt was good but expensive and very formal.
Food at Junglebird was much better than expected for a bar. Same at La Factoria.

It might not be the "best" but Metropol is always my first stop when I get on the island.
Kasalta is pretty amazing as well for a quick lunch.

I had a great meal at Santaella a month ago or so. I recommend it. Also enjoyed a good meal at Bottles in Guaynabo

Via Appia in the Condado area....sit at the bar. Looks like a pizza joint, which it is,and always busy, but sit at the bar. Forget the menu. Chat up the bartender. Ask for a cheese board, wow, then ask for a seafood pasta dish and the chef will knock it out of the park.
Never disappoints, always busy, owner and staff will welcome your desire for high quality wine and food.
