Best bars/pubs in or around Manhattan

Friend is currently there and asked me what I knew. It has been several years since I went to NY but I know several posters live/visited and would know more.
They do like craft beer and want some typical New York bars.

Immediate names that come to mind are Blind Tiger (West Village) and The Pony Bar (locations in Hell's Kitchen and Upper East Side).
ETA: Blind Tiger typically has a couple Hill Farmstead beers on tap.

Pony Bar, Blind Tiger, Fools Gold (One of my Fav's), Rattle & Hum (the East location on 33rd. The West location is a generic tourist pub)
