Did anyone go? Report? Couldn't find any other thread.

No homebrews, no care. (MY opinion)

I was there. The line to get in was ridiculous. At least 20 minutes to get in.
Some decent beers. Nothing earth shattering. Mrs Magoo found lots of fruit flavored beers that she wrote down for future use. The only one that I took down was Ommegang's Game of Thrones beer. But I was trashed by the time I had it, so who knows how great it actually was.
The lines were long, but varied from booth to booth. And they have you a commemorative tiny glass on the way in, which was the only way to get pours. That was kind of weird IMO. Lots of rinsing out between drinks.
Oh, and there was some fiasco about an hour in, and a 19 year old got in somehow, so some of the pourers were carding on the spot, which just made lines worse.
There were a couple of good vendors, but definitely nothing to write home about there. And there were a couple of interesting fruity "beers" one that tasted exactly like grape soda, and one that was legit orange push up pop. But it's hard to actually call those beer
I'm a hop head. Not really many strong IPAs that I recall. No dipa's. By the end, I was just looking for whoever's line was the shortest and drinking whatever they had. Several stands ran out of beer before the end (none of the locals, though).
The only other thing that I'll mention that was odd to me, was that very few of the breweries had representatives there. The locals did obviously, but the other booths just had OnTap employees pouring beer. Just seemed odd to me.
All in all, not bad. Definitely worth the $35 to get smashed on a Sunday afternoon. I would go again. Zapps beer fest has a more "craft" feel to it, with all the homebrews. This was much more mainstream. But the last time I went to Zapps a few years ago, there were so many damn people it was hard to get a drink. OnTap had lines, but not like that.
List of beers is here. If you have any questions about specific ones, I will try to remember details, but it definitely got a little fuzzy.

The appears not not be run by The Bulldog and SPCA like the one in New Orleans. One in NO is a blast with lots of homebrew and micro.

Beer Festivals have become the hot new ticket for for-profit event providers. Americaontap.com is owned by Townsquare Media.

Nola on Tap is my favorite beer event. Lots of home brews and a nice spaced out set up.
I wont return to the Champions Square event. Screw them for not having home brewers and for the $7 in fees on a $40 ticket

Yeah, it's a blast and you can bring your dog. It's always been at City Park btw.
Other guy, don't think americaontaop has anything to do with the one in New Orleans. Was started by Bulldog/TVC owner for the SPCA and the SPCA kinda took the lead a few years later.

Yeah, I was just trying to note a difference between one created / hosted locally (and for a good cause) vs. one created strictly because a company needs new ways to bring in $.

This is the way it has been done at any beer festival I've ever been to. You mentioned Zapps, and they do this there too.
These non-homebrew beer festivals seem to be popping up all over the place. Must be an easy way to make money. Explains why you didn't see many brewery employees too.

Thanks to everyone who replied. Maybe it'll be better for next year!
