I found this box in an antique liquor cabinet that we bought from a friend of my wife's and was wondering if they are legit or fakes. Has the Republica De Cuba stamp.

Anyway, they were in a ziplock type bag and kinda dry, so I wet a paper towel and put it in the bag, and smoked one a week later. Pretty damn good.

BTW, I'm not a cigar smoker and don't know shite about them.

I can't figure out how they got there.

I lived in Europe for 2 years working as airline pilot back in '98-'00 and I used to smuggle them back because I didn't have to go through regular security coming back to the states. So it may be a forgotten box or the friend my wife bought it from may have left them in there.

Anyhow, I'm enjoying them.

Yes, those appear to be Cuban made Cohibas. Enjoy!

I'll save my diatribe about how Cuban cigars are no longer the best in the world as they used to be.

Yeah, I'm sure just the old reputation and being hard to get and illegal here has kept the Cuban cigars myth going for many years.

What country produces the best now in your opinion?

Don't see a date anywhere. Can you date it by this stamp?

Some of my favorites come from Nicaragua and Dominican Republic. A friend once told me, Cubans are still making the best cigars in the world, just not in Cuba

Ash should be quite black, most epxect very white like a dominican so you don't realize you were duped because most of what is available in the US have white ashes. Soil and mineral difference.
