tl;dr - Went to Dark Lord Day, it was fun, good beer, would go back.

A couple buddies, the GF, and I went down to Munster this weekend for Dark Lord Day. My first time going down for it.

Took the free bus from Reggie's, which is a live music joint on the south side. Pretty painless heading down there. The weather was brutal (40s and rain the entire time), but everyone was dressed for it. Took us about 2 hours to get into the fest, but from there it wasn't terrible. Food lines were kinda long but moved pretty quickly.

We were able to post up in one of the big tents where a DJ was playing good music (I think the DJ was the only black person among the 8,000 there). From there we just shared awesome beers with everyone else. The stuff people had was unreal. There was KBS, Dark Lord, and things like Pliny the Elder all over the place. We didn't even use all our drink/food tickets because everyone brought so much of their own.

This year they broke it up into five groups to space out the beer distribution, which was super fast and painless. Everyone got four bottles and a variant.

For as much drinking as there was going on, there were no issues whatsoever that I saw. While we were waiting for the bus to take us back to the city, I did see one guy fighting like the dickens to remain standing. Eventually gravity won out and he face planted directly in some mud...but a kind soul attempted to help him.

I'd definitely go back.

Cool post I recently had a '14 and '15 Dl and wasn't expecting much from all the love it or hate it/soy sauce type reviews. I actually kind of enjoyed them.

Thanks. Some guy shared a little '12 with us, and it was awesome. I had some '15 a few weeks ago and didn't think it all that amazing, but the '12 was fantastic.

The variant we got was "Quit hitting yourself". The people working it recommended it of the four options we had.

We were in the fourth out of five groups, so our pickings were a bit limited. The vanilla stuff we wanted was gone after the A group.

I'm still figuring out what to do with it (my five at least). May trade one or two, but may also just save most of it. Gotta give/trade at least one with my buddy down in Charlotte who got me into the craft beer thing and has treated me to some really good stuff over the past few years.

txbd...are you talking about a Parish brew? I'm not a fan of IPAs, so if I was going to trade it would need to be for a super solid/premium barrel aged stout, like an aged BCBS variant.

read a lot about people having their bottles stolen, cars broken into. kinda sad that people would go to that length for some beer

Dang. I didn't hear about that. Seemed pretty tame as far as I could tell, but I guess when something is that rare and coveted, and people are drunk, they'll do dumb shite.
