It's pretty damn incredible. Ate there with my family a few years back when my sister graduated from CofC. The actual restaurant itself is gorgeous

Went to Charleston recently and Husk was very good, although it was probably my fourth or fifth favorite meal I had while there.
Charleston has a ridiculously great food scene.

Went to Husk in Nashville as I always heard about how good it was in Charleston, not impressed. I whole vibe was very pretentious from bartender to the waitress and the menu was vey random. I understand how Sean Brock sources his food so perhaps it was a bad night or I am not hip to the Nashville food crowd.

After living in Charleston for a little bit now I've eaten at most of the great restaurants and Husk is my favorite.

We do lots and lots of business in and with Nashville. We usually make the quick flight 4 to 6 times a year. I've eaten at Nashville's Husk a few times and I've finally had the pleasure of trying Charleston's while vacationing in John's Island.
First, I'm not sure how you got a pretentious vibe at the Nashville location...at all? They pride themselves on being on a locally sourced, Southern restaurant. It's not classic, French dining.
I believe Husk's philosophy is if it isn't coming from the local region, it isn't coming in through the door. Which leads to the menu. Random? It's coming from the Southern region. You're typically going to have some sort of fish, pork, chicken, duck, charcuterie, exquisite vegetables on the menu. Sure, the menu changes daily but they stay within the "Southern food tradition" limits. You aren't getting amuse-bouche in eggshells topped with foam, rock candy, and caviar....
As far as pretentiousness...Nashville's and Charleston's are vastly different. Nashville is one of the most laid-back towns in the South. You don't have to wear a coat and you won't stick out if you don't. It's a town based on musicians. Charleston is a town based on doctors and lawyers. The vibe there is far more stuffy...to its own detriment. If you aren't dressed as Colonel Sanders or some suit with pastel accents, you'll stick out.
I actually enjoy Nashville's food and drink more as well. Nashville's serves more game such as duck and deer...along with the abundant pork, ham, and Eastern Tennessee brown trout. Charleston's is based more on seafood and oysters and they just left me underwhelmed. Maybe trips to New Orleans has spoiled me, but very few places on the East Coast (outside of New York, Boston, Portland, DC) wow me with their seafood.

This has probably had its own thread... but if you like drunken Sean Brock stories, this G&G article about he and a bunch of bourbon afficianados doing a 24 year blind vertical Weller tasting is pretty fantastic.

Heinz 57 is the best, man. One or more complex sauces in the American repertoire. You want to talk shite about it. This is sauce work. Trust me, this is going to change your life.Mmm. So this brilliant human being had a recipe, it was amazing and I think he got a bad rap..
Best part imo is when he is trying to convince bourdain how great Heinz 57 sauce is
Whole scene is greatness though

This is why I love Bourdain. He genuinely seems to enjoy a meal at the Waffle House or some street cart as much as a private meal with Bocuse.

Husk and McCrady's are both amazing.
I'd put Charleston up with some of the best food cities in the country and easily one of the most overlooked.
