I'd like to recommend the 2012 Columbia Crest Grand Estates Cabernet Sauvignon as a very good wine at a great price. I've been pouring it as a de facto house red for the past couple of months.

I've been a fan of the Grand Estates line of wines from Columbia Crest for years, especially the reds. Usually I prefer their merlot to their cabernet sauvignon, but this 2012 cab is a winner.

The wine retails for around $13 or so, but can often be found on sale for under $10.

If you are interested in ratings, Wine Spectator had this to say about the wine:

quote:

Wine Spectator - Columbia Valley, WA- "Polished, plush and vibrant, with a core of plum and black currant fruit welling up seductively against hints of sweet spices and cream. The finish lingers beautifully." 90 points.

Thanks. We could use a little more wine talk on the F&D board.

For lower priced wines, Columbia Crest Grand Estates, Blackstone, and Bogle are all great values. The 2012 Bogle Merlot, which is on the shelves right now, is especially good.

Bogle is always a go to for merlots and cabs. I also like BV.

Tempra Tantrum is a decent blended wine- they used to sell a Cab blend and a merlot blend that I really liked.
