Although that gif is funny as hell, how in the world was that dude employed after that? Wonder if he was audited for his calls.

That’s why I always roll my eyes when they bring out the chains to measure. Even the best and unbiased ref is going to be off a foot or so either way, so it’s really fricking pointless to pretend to care about a few inches.

The good news is that companies are working on digital devices that will be accurate within an inch and will know exactly where the ball was when the player was down. Surprisingly the NFL has actually paid for one company to provide a presentation as to how the tech would be implemented, so hopefully that means they are open to using the tech sooner rather than later.

Of course baseball has had the ability to have exact balls and strikes for years, but fights the implementation at every turn.

He puts his foot down for the initial mark as he looks back toward the marker. Seeing that he is short of the first down, he then slides his foot forward ever so slightly 4x after his initial mark, inching closer toward the 1st down marker. He then looks back a last time and puts the ball down right at the 1st down mark. In total moving the ball about an entire football length to give the tide a 1st down.

And yes, gumps have tried to defend this claiming that he had mentally marked it before he placed his foot and looked back just to make sure he aligned with his mental mark.

Was it actually a Bama game? Us LSU fans like to ascribe those moments as evidence of cheatery even if it's not an actual Bama game

Yes, Ole Miss vs. bama, 2012. Watch this slow motion video footage. The ball is correctly marked initially, but ends up a first down for bama...
