So, I have Trevor Story. Spent $10 on him for the draft, which is higher than anyone was willing to spend because of Reyes and the unknown. It is a keeper league, therefore each season the price goes up $3 to keep them. Fast forward to now. He's got 21 homers, batting around .260 and has an .850 OPS. Stolen Bases are lower than expected but homers are up. I'm projecting he will end up with something like 30 and 10.

Here is the question: How does Trevor project for the future? I'm sucking dick in my league. I've made playoffs 4 of last 5 years, but lots of my players have gotten hurt or underperformed this year. Personally, I think Trevor comes down to earth next year and hits around 20 homers and bats .250-.260 again. That's still very good for a shortstop, but he's such a hot commodity should I try to sell off now? I'm trying desperately to get Bregman. Obviously I would sell Story and maybe someone else for Bregman. Thoughts?

Selling Story for a nice haul isn't a bad idea. However, you are underselling Story who's up and doing it and over buying what Bregman is doing in the minors. Now Bregman may very well be an excellent player, better than Story even, but I would not ship out Story for him straight up much less add another player.

If Story is such a hot commodity, you certainly aren't treating him that way with your valuation of him.

I would definitely keep Story. Why trade a proven top fantasy shortstop for a guy who has a handful of AAA at bats?

Well, that's why I'm asking. Story wasn't supposed to be THIS good. So I'm worried regression is in his future. He will still be a top 15 shortstop, but he has dropped every month. Especially if you take his April away, then he's not even a top 20 shortstop. He doesn't do anything in Avg, his ops will always depend on homers because he doesn't walk, his runs will therefore be down. He honestly just worries me, and I think Bregman is about as much of a lock to hit .280 at the worst, .800+ ops at worst, with 15-20 hrs, and 15-20 sbs.

Again, this is for next year and the upcoming years.

Solid point about too much for Bregs. We have a strange league. We can keep 10 players, so although Story is cheap for $13 to keep, Bregman at $3 would be elite, and I could spend $10 elsewhere. Also, I would add a player I did not plan on keeping since I am so far out of it and pretty much have my 10 I want to keep.

I wouldn't be in any hurry to sell story at that price. While he's likely not THIS good, the power is for real and Coors and that lineup will inflate his stats some.

.250/22/80/70/8 is still a valuable shortstop.

If you're not worried about short term then nab Bergman

Story is a Mark Reynolds type of player. He's the best they've got but in time could fall out of favor

I agree. I've chalked this year up and I just don't see how story can top this year.

I love Trevor, but in 3 years who will be better...Trevor Story or Alex Bregman? I just have to think it'll be Bregs
