re: Thoughts on Stefon Diggs

Cordarrelle Patterson isn't a fair comparison, in my opinion.
By all accounts, Stefon Diggs is a superb route runner and has shown flashes of that ability in his first two games.
In stark contrast, the biggest criticism Patterson is up against is his route-running ability, or lack thereof. Mike Zimmer had no problem calling him out last season in regard to that, but did acknowledge he was improving earlier in the spring spring.
Within that same breadth, Mike Wallace is also a below-average route runner and has admitted as much, last season after becoming a Viking, when he said he is more accustomed to going straight down the field, which is why he felt he might fit in more with Minnesota -- still has yet to transpire.

Point was it'll take a little more than stars and a good game to sell me on a vike WR
mike florio is already saying min has the best WR trio in the league

My hesitation is what happens when Johnson returns. With him out, Diggs has been great.
I think this hesitation should be more geared to Charles Johnson.
Even while healthy, Johnson did not see many targets in his three games this season.
With Stefon Diggs displaying his ability to get open, both out wide and in the slot, it is no guarantee that his production takes a significant dip after eating up 19 targets in two games.
I guess we'll see.

Diggs is the best WR in Minnesota. He was a a stud in preseason and gets more separation than anyone else on the team.
I think he is for real. I don't feel that way about anyone else there. I went into the season only wanting Peterson. No interest in Wallace, Charles Johnson, Rudolph, etc. Diggs is gonna be productive.

I have him now. My concern is the conservative offense and QB in Minnesota.
Is it possible to put up big numbers every week in that run first offense?

I think he could easily post WR2 numbers if all goes well. He is becoming the first read more and more. He always seems open.
Diggs eats early and often. He had 4/81 in under a quarter on Sunday.

Would you rather Rishard Matthews or Diggs? PPR
Reason I ask, Matthews posting catches, yards, TDs pretty consistently. Seems he's a bench rider and never talked about. Better QB and offense
Diggs has a game and now he's starter worthy over top 10 WRs. Is this a case of falling in love with the hottest freshest guys?

I think it's a case of one guy fighting his way up the depth chart (Diggs) when the other guy is in a stable role (Matthews). But look at the games. Diggs just passes the eye test. He runs precise routes, plays fast and decisively. It's nothing flukey like catching some long bombs on a couple of targets. When coaching decides to give him the option on routes, he's going to be even better.
Both are good plays and should be in lineups. However, if we're talking about season-long leagues, Matthews shouldn't even be available. Diggs was until this past game.

I think it is pretty close. I am starting both in my 14 man PPR.
I will give a slight edge to Diggs as homer, but I also feel like there are a ton of mouths to feed in Miami (you could say the same about Minnesota). If I watched the Dolphins more, then I could give you a better answer. All I know is Diggs is the best WR in Miami. I assumed Jarvis Landry would be the best in Miami, but idk.
I agree that Rishard is underrated. He has been very good most weeks.

the keenan allen comparison earlier is fair.

Im going Doug Baldwin
Can work inside and outside with some big play potential catching and running
On a team that doesnt pass much (MIN last in NFL in pass attempts). Also in the bottom 3 in scoring in NFL
Will have good games and bad games and will be hard to trust week to week depending on where he's slotted in your lineup

For a little perspective, Keenan Allen in 2013:
71/1046/8 on 104 targets. He had 0, 3, and 1 targets in weeks 1-3. In his final 12 games, he posted 68/1016/8 on 100 targets.
Per game, that is 5.6/84.6/.6 (all of the .6 are repeating). He basically became an 18 ppg PPR player over the final 12 games.
I think Diggs could be a 15 ppg PPR in his final 11 games. He averaged 17.2 in his first two games.

15 ppg wouldve been the 13th best for a WR last season
you start talking 18 ppg and youre talking top 5 WR last season
if he can be top 30 in that offense then you are happy and call it a win

Two pages and no one mentions Charles Johnson has been inactive the last 2 weeks?
Are we just thinking Diggs has replaced him now that CJ is back?

2nd post gent
they really need both, so i dont think diggs goes to the bench. but their are already minimal pass attempts, i just wonder what that does to targets

Ah. Well said.
I haven't watched any Vikings since opening night. I'll usually trust my boy VKC's insight on them.
Diggs just seems like a guy that will burn ya.

Yeah, Diggs is better.

I mentioned him, albeit very briefly, on the first page.
