So I joined a league at the last minute bc one of my buddy's and his group of friends from work needed one more guy.

Well none of these guys had really done fantasy before and the commissioner was a first time commissioner.

Its a 10 team, standard scoring league.

Well i found out the night of the draft that we are limited to 4 WRs, 4RBs, and HAVE to have a backup kicker and Defense on our bench.

So im pretty pissed that we're basically wasting bench spots and i talk to my buddy about it who talks to his friends about it and they all want it changed.

But nobody knows the best way to go about it fairly.

I think the commissioner can change the rules but then it would just make it a free for all as to who could pick up the best free agents available.

We could have him change it on Monday night and then use the waiver wire as a "draft" of sorts, but then if Waiver position #1 and Waiver position #2 put it for the same guy, #2 could get passed up

Anyway, Any recommendations on the best way to go about fixing this and making the acquisition of players fair?

TL;DR: Want to get rid of rule forcing a kicker and D/ST on the bench. Trying to figure out fair way to acquire free agents after change

Play by the current rules this year and change it in 2015.

well yea, this is obviously the default, but everybody including the commissioner wants it changed for this season

so we're trying to figure out anyway to do it

There isn't a fair way to do it.

Someone will get screwed.

It's going to be a clusterfrick and some people are going to feel screwed regardless. I agree with poster that it should be left be until next season. Otherwise you stand to piss off half of the league.

Why not just have another draft by email or group text? Not like there are many spots to fill anyway. Then the Commish can go in and input the players manually? Not like you're in a huge rush. May have to miss out this week, but there is still plenty of football to be played.

That might work

Only problem I see with an additional draft at this point is that I am sure some people have already made free agent and waiver wire moves. It's too late in the process for things to be fair.

That's what I was thinking. If everyone wants it changed then it shouldn't be too hard to setup.

Use the same order as the first draft. And that's the easiest/fairest way to make it work. Have two rounds, and if someone wants to keep 2 defense for whatever reason then they get skipped in round 1, or 2.

Could you just do an offline 2 round snake draft of the players available in the same order that the next round of your original draft would be? If somebody wanted to keep the second defense or kicker, you could give them the option of forfeiting their pick in one of the rounds. After you finish it, let the commissioner add those players to each team to replace a backup defense and kicker that each team specified before the draft.

not only that, but it already looks like people wont be too involved in the league

of the 10 people, me and two other guys are the only ones that have made any moves this week in either free agency or waivers

like i said in the OP, i dont think these guys really care

which i guess bodes well for me if im actually paying attention during the season and they're not

Sounds like a shitty league. Is there money involved? If not, then just wash your hands of the league. Lol.

Do it this way. Leave the waiver order how it is. What's the problem with that?

basically people would have to put in for alot players for waivers

Say Team 1 on Waivers wants Steve Smith, Sr. and Team 2 also wants Steve Smith Sr., Team 2 wouldnt be able to get him but he wouldnt know that when he put in the waiver claim, so he would have to put a second claim just to be safe otherwise he would get passed on the waiver position

not a big deal for the first 2 teams, but when you're looking at 10 teams replacing 2 bench spots on the waiver wire, that ends up being a lot players to put claims in on

If the league wants to make the change, then an offline draft is the easiest option. Whether you use the original draft order or the current waiver order is a decision for the members of your league. But that would keep everybody from having to put in 20 waiver claims.
