What's the opinions on McHugh?

He was offered to me for Gardner... on paper I should jump on it as I am overstocked with Gardner types on my roster but wondering if I should hold out for better?

16 team Dynasty head to head league and I will not win any money this year in the league...

Over the past 365 days (174 IP):

2.79 ERA
1.05 WHIP
8.7 K/9

Many were skeptical at first, but he has proven to be serviceable. Id say he's a nice SP2 or SP3 in a 16 team league. Id do the deal

Mark Simon tweeted out an illustration of the location of all 9 strikeouts McHugh had from Sunday.

All of them were on the edge of the strike zone. Great location.

I did the deal... the other option was Latos.

For sure. Unless he started throwing a different pitch over 40% of the time.

I am a big Brett Gardner fan, but this is pretty solid for you in 2016 and beyond.

He throws both. A ton.

The depth he gets on the curveball is sick.

quote:

The Astros' front office and coaching staff also told McHugh that the spin rate on his curveball was among the highest of any pitcher in the game and that he should be throwing the curve more. McHugh changed his approach, going from a hurler who was heavily dependent on his fastball to one who was much more unpredictable and used all four of his pitches (the others, a changeup and a slider/cutter).

I have only seen one McHugh start and it was slider after slider. Pretty sure he leads all starters in terms of slider usage as well.

Nice repitiore

FB is rather pedestrian but can locate it to go along with 2 or 3 other plus pitches. Good "pitcher"

Had him in a few leagues last year and dropped him, which I regret. Didn't have the track record so I was one of the skeptics

still dont buy mchugh. He's ok but gardner is more valuable in a 16tm league imo

The only reason to not take this is cause this a keeper where this guy is rebuilding. You have to wonder how long he keeps stealing.

if i had to trade him though id target someone a little younger with more upside than McHugh. Look at teams at the top that need a push and have a young guy they may be open to deal.

mchugh is 28 and his stuff is average. Not that he isn't an affective pitcher but i think he gets figured out eventually. Whether its the 2nd half this year, next year, whenever.

there aren't many RHP's around with a 90mph average fastball that can keep up those K numbers over time. I eventually see his K's dropping and his ERA rising to high 3's. Dude kinda reminds me of DIllon Gee

This is why I pulled the trigger on the trade. These are the cbs headlines from 08/2014.

--McHugh allowed one run on four hits over 7 2/3 innings. He struck out eight and did not issue any walks during the outing.
--McHugh allowed two runs on eight hits over seven innings. He struck out six and did not issue any walks during the outing.
--McHugh allowed two runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out two and walked one during the outing.

Very similar outings this year... I like the fact he strikes people out and doesn't walk a lot. He does give up home runs but as long as he's not walking people the home runs won't hurt his overall numbers.
