Let me preface this by saying that this is only my 2nd season to play fantasy baseball. I was invited to join a league last year and once the season started, I found that I really enjoyed it...maybe even more so than I enjoy fantasy football. So I've talked my fantasy football league into giving fantasy baseball a shot. Most will be new to fantasy baseball, so I don't want to overwhelm them with too much in this inaugural season.

Last year, I felt that the standard scoring settings, in the yahoo league I participated in, could have been tweeked a bit to make things a little more interesting.

Our scoring settings included the following categories:

Batters: Runs, Home Runs, Runs Batted In, Stolen Bases, and Average

Pitchers: Wins, Saves, Strikeouts, Earned Run Average, and WHIP

I was toying with the idea of adding a couple categories to each, like hits and OBP for batters and Innings Pitched and OBP against for pitchers.

Can anyone of you share your experiences and scoring settings that you prefer, or what you think might be best suited for a league of fantasy baseball novices?

Thanks in advance

Being that the majority will be new to fantasy baseball, I recommend just keeping it basic. As you mentioned, you don't want to overwhelm them. If I'd change anything, it would be from Wins to Quality Starts.

Exactly. Keep it simple especially if most will be new.

Down the road, I'd upgrade Wins to Quality Starts, AVG to OPS, and K's to K/9. I wouldn't add categories though.

What about taking average out and replacing it with hits? Or does that open the door for those who get a lot of walks to be less effective?

Y'all are probably right...keep it simple.
