I wanted to start a new thread to kinda have a roundtable discussion about what a large dynasty league might look like come spring time. Things that need to be determined:

1. Number of Teams (I like 20)
2. H2H or Roto
3. Initial Draft: Auction or Snake?
4. Website (I vote CBS for something this large)
5. Rosters (How many starters/reserves, etc)
6. How many Minor league slots?
7. How many IR slots?
8. Scoring Cats
9. Schedule, if H2H (We could make it 19 weeks long, playing each team once. Balanced!)
10. Entry Fee (at least $100, if not double)
11. The commish (sorry, but I really don't want to do it )
12. The owners (nothing personal, but I would prefer only guys that we have experience playing with, and that have proven that they won't check out half way through a season).

If you've played in TDBL, DAT, or SBL and have interest in something like this, please check in.

7. Two
8. OPS, R, RBI, HR, SB, QS, ERA, WHIP, S/Holds, Total K with an innings pitched limit
9. Roto

I would be in 100%

Ive never done a dynasty in any sport, so take my comments with a grain of salt.

1. Number of Teams (I like 20)

I like 20 too.

quote:

2. H2H or Roto

i always prefer roto, but sometimes the bottom teams can lose interest. But that may be a good thing in this format.

quote:

3. Initial Draft: Auction or Snake?

snake, imo.

quote:

5. Rosters (How many starters/reserves, etc)

I think the starters spots in our TDBL are nice. Maybe add a UTIL or 2.

Benches maybe add 4 total, 2 to batters and pitchers

quote:

6. How many Minor league slots?

i feel like minor leaguers should be kept on the bench?

if not, then maybe 4 total.

quote:

7. How many IR slots?

2

8. Scoring Cats

the usual

I feel like having a minor league system is a must; and there should be no less than 10 spots.

I like. Could find a site that uses minor league rosters, too.

2. H2H or Roto

I think Roto is the best format to determine a true champion.

3. Initial Draft: Auction or Snake?

Snake for simplicity purposes

quote:

5. Rosters (How many starters/reserves, etc)

With 20 teams, you could mimic a starting lineup for baseball.

quote:

6. How many Minor league slots?

10 sounds like a good number

quote:

7. How many IR slots?

2?

quote:

8. Scoring Cats

I like the TDBL/SBL scoring cats

quote:

10. Entry Fee (at least $100, if not double)

I like the idea of high stakes

quote:

11. The commish (sorry, but I really don't want to do it )

Would be willing to help out on a committee of sorts

12. The owners (nothing personal, but I would prefer only guys that we have experience playing with, and that have proven that they won't check out half way through a season).

I agree. Would like a review process, maybe by a committee.

Like i said, ive never done one. But if we have 20 teams with big rosters, some teams are gonna suck with no hope of getting better for years.

I'd be very interested.

1. I'd be down with 20
2. I'd prefer roto with 20 teams
3. I'm good with either roto or auction. I'd probably give the edge to auction though.
4. ESPN or CBS
5. With a league this large, I'd try and keep it minimal with 3 outfielders and only 1 flex if at all.
6. I think it would be fun to have a minor league draft/roster as well. Maybe 5 guys per team?
7. 1 DL slot would work. 2 max.
8. Cockroft's go to 6x6 would be ideal which I believe are R, HR, RBI, OBP, SLUG, SB x ERA, WHIP, QS, S, IP, K/9
9. Fine with that if H2H
10. I'd be fine with 100
11. I already commish so I'd rather not do that

1. 14+, I'd prefer 16.
2. H2H
3. Snake
4. Don't care.
5. SBL settings are fine... open to adding a extra UTIL
6. Fine with whatever the standard is.
7. 3
8. 5x5 typical settings the majority of the leagues are running.
9. Up to you guys. Some leagues are shorter than others... I have no preference.
10. 200+
11. Don't care, not me.
12. Whoever is willing to fork out the cash. You're not going to put out 200+ and not be serious... at least that's what I would think.

1. 20 teams is good for me.
2. I prefer roto, but the risk of non-attentive owners goes up. Some teams could be out of it in week 10. We need to ensure that everyone is legit or we need to implement disincentives to not being active. H2H would not be a deal breaker for me.
3. It would be difficult to properly run an auction with that many owners. Fine with snake or auction.
4. Fantrax, CBS, In-Roto would be my preferences.
5. Typically a MI and CI is added to dynasty leagues to keep it deep. With 20 teams this may not be necessary. The number of bench spots should depend on the pitching setup. If we have a bunch of cumulative stats we may need more reserve spots (8 to 10) with an IP maximum. I like how TDBL is set up in this regard. Ratios and minimum IP with 10 bench spots.
6. At least 10 Minor League spots, prefer 15, but not a deal breaker. It'll keep one team from stockpiling all the prospects and it'll force teams to dig deep. We'd also need to clearly define the minor league eligibility. I would also stipulate that only active mlb players can be placed on active rosters so owners do not try to expand their minor league roster artificially.
7. I say 3 IR spots with today's TJs and reduced use of steroids. Player must be designated by MLB on the DL though.
8. Scoring Cats - I say 6 x 6. I like pitching ratios with an increased IP minimum (at least 35). I also like OBP and Total Bases split up. Holds as a separate category would open up the league to a bunch of pitchers that aren't usually fantasy relevant.
9. Schedule - Each team once would be ideal.
10. Entry Fee - At least $100.
11. The commish - Fine with anyone agreed upon. I like the idea of several co-commissioners. We could also set some funds aside to buy the commissioner a bottle of good drink after the season as a thank you.
12. The owners - I'm fine with a consensus opinion from the more-established fantasy owners.
