You better hope you aren't in 1st to finish the season...the odds would be stacked heavily against you to win in the playoffs if so. Its weird, but the regular season winner in FF only wins the championship about 30% of the time

if 4 people make the playoffs you have a 25% chance of winning. if the 1st place team has a 30% chance that is better than everyone else

Sure if you don't give any weight to the 1st place team. Analyze that how you want

why would you give extra weight to the 1st place team? unless they are undefeated and massively outscored everyone the difference between 1-4 aint that great. so 30% chance of winning a 4 team playoff is better than if the average was 25% across the board, therefore the odds being stacked against the 1st place team is pure fallacy

The fact that the 1st place team is in 1st place because they are the best team in the league means nothing I guess.

i don't think it does if points are close

...i'm in 7th place, but 1st in points. if i make the playoffs, do the top 2 or three teams really have an advantage?

Our 1 league isn't a constant for all of fantasy. Over thousands and thousands of leagues, the average would be more consistent. The bigger the pool of examples, the more regular and expected the results you can expect when dealing with 1st-4th in terms of better to worse

I'm a big analyzer of statistics and odds. That is my betting style and my outlook on probability. Not everyone agrees to have an odds-minded outlook so to each his own

your logic is flawed though. you say the odds are stacked against the 1st ranked team. 30% would be better odds than the other 3 teams would have using an equal average across the board. you can make the argument you think the 1st place team should win more than that but to say the odds are stacked against them is completely false

Again, the difference between us is that I would give the 1st place team added weight, whereas you would not.

If I can find a link to the percentages, it was something like

1st-30%
2nd-38%
3rd-22%
4th-10%

even using those odds it seems the 1st place team has the 2nd best chance at winning. you can say that the 4th place team has the odds heavily stacked against them but to say they stacked against the 1st place team makes no sense and is a pure reach by you.
