I know we've been here before....isnt the punishment for having an illegal lineup the fact you can't make any moves until you get legal?

Yes, mainly pertaining to having guys on DL. They need to be active to make a move
As for having more players than a roster allows, I dont think that is ever permitted. As in if you pull a 3 for 1 trade, you gotta drop 2 guys during the transaction to make things whole.
