or weekly.. whatever you call it.
I played that format for this first time this past weekend and I think i prefer it over standard fantasy.
Anyone else think the same thing?

I play it, as well as the basketball version. It's great. Just enjoy it for what it is, entertainment that can occasionally win you a few bucks.
Don't make the mistake that a lot of people make thinking you'll be immediately great because you're good at traditional fantasy sports. Everyone you're competing with thinks the same thing and only a few people win at this consistently.

I always play the "intermediate" games on fan duel for fantasy football. No now who has won over a certain amount of money can play in these games

Exactly. I generally play $3 or so games with no more that 10k entries. Hit for about $40 on a $2 game this weekend with only 2900+ entries. It's just for fun and I realize that the ones that pay big money are basically like winning the lottery as you need to beat 500k or more people.

I played a few times this year but only had 2 weeks where it was worth it. It's not even legal where I live but it's legal in Mississippi so I just enter lineups at the Mississippi welcome center. I don't live far away from the line so it wasn't a big deal to drive there.
But I wasn't trying to play every week either.
It's best if you don't during football anyway especially if you're participating in season long leagues anyway.
I'd be careful playing baseball or basketball too.
Baseball is pretty fun on there I think but not quite as fun as football. Season long leagues are better in my opinion cause really the only ones who win big dollars in DFS are pros who are playing with a huge bank roll anyway.

I think a lot of casual players that think they'll be great and aren't (which is most of us) don't know what they're up against.
There are all kinds of lineup optimizer services, both free and subscriber-based that people can utilize these days to spit out 100s of LUs, however many they need.
For instance, Fantasylabs is a site that's focused exclusively on DFS analytics. There are several other similar sites, some better than others. Are those necessary for success? No, but they do a lot of the heavy lifting that most casual players don't have time to do themselves. If you're not using at least a free optimizer you might as well be playing the lottery. The edge these days to win is insanely small, but there is an edge to be had.

You don't need an optimizer to win. I'm successful at PGA because I research heavily. U do need to find sites that makes it easier to break down stats tho. That's the long part. U can create your own lines once you have your own rankings. I use thefantasyfanatics. You input what stats what you want to use for each tourney and it weighs them and gives you an overall ranking. I can use the optimizer but don't like too.

Didn't say you needed one to win. If you have time to research then great. Most people don't. For those people just throwing together a random LU, they might as well buy a lottery ticket when they're competing against people that research, use an optimizer, or both.
But hey, people win the lottery all the time. The odds of any single person doing it are extremely low.

anyone can play even if everyone is from LA. Set up a free league, then everyone pay the commish through paypal independently.

This is why I try to only play the ones with minimums on how many lineups you can enter and I play small tournaments. Just be happy with $20 here and there and if you get in the top five be happy with a few hundred or a thousand. I dont go try and chase 200k.

that's the best way to be right there. ^^^^
the shorter slates are also fun to play too, like the last few weeks for example. When the field of teams is shortened I feel like it gives you more of advantage. That's just my opinion anyway.. but I've won $187 the 2 weeks.
$102 on Wildcard round and $85 more last week.
my net winnings weren't all that great though cause I spent $27 per entry in the quarter million tournament on DK. But winning is winning so I can't be disappointed. I have friends who drive over to Mississippi and lose a lot more money at the boats than I do playing daily fantasy. So I don't mind taking a few wise cracks from people about having to drive to the state lines just to enter my lineup.
I have relatives who live in legal states and might help me but I'm not gonna bother them with my crap, you know?
I'm playing 2 more lineups this week in quarter million again and then its a wrap. I'm looking at ATL and NE stacks cause typically that's the way to go in the conference round. I went back and looked at the winners the last few years and noticed they had more exposure to the home teams than they did with the road teams.
