Your looking at the wrong thing, stars don't mean shite.

Tiger fans, we get all bent out of shape for 3 star commits. There are hundreds of kids that are better than their rating. There are four major recruiting services rivals, 247, scout, & ESPN. They are the so called experts and they can agree on where prospects should be ranked. One service will have a kid ranked in the top 50 in the country and another service will have him outside the top 250.
We as fans should take this staff for their evaluations and let them pick the kids. Coach O has been specifically known for his recruiting eye and because he's taking 3 star kids we start to doubt him. How about doubting the recruiting services for their rankings instead.

I mean, I think both sides have strong arguments.
I think the staff should get the benefit of the doubt, and we as fan should always be concerned and questioning their judgements.
That is what builds national championship programs. Concern from all parties.

To be honest, O has the shortest leash a LSU coach has ever had. If he's willing to risk his last shot at being a HC on these 3 stars then that's fine with me. Either he will win big and soon or he will be out extremely fast. He won't get the chance to kill us by 1000 cuts like Miles did.

If you look at the recruiting rankings throughout they years they are never perfect, but always a good indicator. a five-star recruit has a 50/50 shot a being a good College player and 1/4 of being objectively great. a 4-star player has roughly a 1/3 chance of becoming a productive player and a 3-star has like a 1/8 chance of being a good started at LSU. yes more 3-star players get drafted, but there are thousands of 3-stars and only 30 five stars, and 300 or so 4-stars. in short, stars aren't everything, but they mean something.

I disagree.
They mean something. They just don't mean everything.
Just one piece of information out of many that needs to be combined to paint an accurate picture or come to a conclusion.

These kids have an entire season of football to play. Look at how much the class changed from this point last year to NSD.

Very true, but remember stars are meant to predict future performance in college, not pros.....

There is a lot of overlap.

ever wonder why 247 has exactly 32 5 stars every year?

At 247Sports, we use the NFL Draft as the ultimate measure of accuracy in our high school football evaluations. To that end, we rank 32 five-stars every year to mirror the first round of the NFL Draft. Let’s get started ...

The final rankings, not the rankings in June.
I'll give O the benefit of the doubt no matter what, but the denial and excuses on the board are comical.

Maybe, but the point is pro performance isn't what stars predict, and so who was drafted where is irrelevant.

I look at it like this, an individual players ranking is a bit of a crap shoot. Usually about 15-18 players will be 5 stars across all four services. Tre White was a 3,4,4,5 I believe. Of these 3 star players committed, probably half to two thirds will end up with at least one 4 star ranking. The average player ranking is a good indicator for a class as a whole. I'll also add that a balanced class by position group is important as well because being heavy at two position groups can skew the numbers e.g. 7 DBs rated 4/5 helps with averages, but since only 4-6 can play at the same time and perhaps you have 10 DBs returning anyway you maybe weaker with depth at other groups which just prolongs the cycle for the next year.

Ok BUT we are still going to land highly ranked 5* and 4* guys before the season is done so if we were to hold here, fill the rest of the class with highly rated guys then our ranking will still be plenty high. Even if we keep landing these type of recruits and some move up we will still have a great class in the top 13. When these guys perform on the field like our coaches think they will this place will be just as bad from the people who know better saying so. It's a never ending deal. Wait until the recruits perform a little before judging good lord

Even in June they mean something. with players like Leonard Fournette, it is very obvious from years out that they will be great players.

The Ratings change a lot during the year. They change a lot after the all-star games. With that said, player evaluation is key. Washington and Clemson do a pretty good job of it. 1/2 of the final four supported the star gazers and the other 1/2 supported coaching evaluation. You can even Argue that Penn St. had a case to be in there and they aren't a consistent top 5 recruiting team either.
