Is it too late to plant a tree?

I know a good rule of thumb is to move them in early Spring. This is a loquat tree, maybe 8 feet tall with a base of 3" or so. Maybe 2.5. It's been growing really well so I'm tempted to leave it be, but it would be nice to get it planted and done.
Thanks in advance.

I may be wrong, but I believe October is the best month for planting trees.

Yes, October or November

Well hell, I might be way off the mark. I always March was the time. I'm certainly no arborist though.

December-March is the best time to plant trees.
If the tree is in a pot, it will do better going in the ground now than it will sitting in a pot in August-October when it's 100 friggin degrees outside.

Wait until fall/winter when the tree is dormant. Do it while it's cool & not windy & don't expose roots to any sub-freezing temperatures.
Planting in the spring or summer can be done with success, but will require much more attention on your part.

And a ton of water. I moved two Meyer lemon trees a few weeks ago because I sold the property and had to. They are doing ok but it's work and almost a daily water.
