Flash-in-the-pan coaches vs. good coaches who have a bad year

Seems like everyone was on to something when we were saying Gary Patterson should be our next coach (5 years ago - 2 years ago). Then, when we actually finally got the opportunity to get someone we had all watched consistently coach well, we go after Herman and Patterson was all but forgotten. I see why we went after Fisher. In my mind it should have been between him and Patterson. Then, we would have an excellent, proven coach that we all wanted for YEARS. But instead, we pissed it away bc we were scared of losing O as a recruiter.
Someone convince me I'm wrong here...

Yea. Lets get Jimbo... he is so amazing. FSU is in the chip for sure this year. Oh wait! They are unranked. Stahp it already with the Jimbo nonsense.

The scary thing is, O as a recruiter was effective when he recruited for Johnson, Carroll, and Miles in his prime.
You're going to see a lot more misses now that he is recruiting to persuade 4-and-5 stars to play for HIS program.
That fence around Louisiana? It's been shabby for awhile.
It's about to come tumbling down.

I'm not on the "Hire Jimbo" bandwagon, but to act like he's a bad coach because his team is struggling after losing their starting QB in the opener is pretty dumb.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying here. I'm not saying we should've hired Jimbo as much as I'm asking why in the world did we jump off the Patterson train and put all our eggs in the basket for Herman when it was Patterson we all seemed to want (if the Jimbo thing fell through, which it did). Personally, I would've liked Patterson over Jimbo. It just seems like since Patterson had one lackluster year, everyone bailed on him even though we all know he would do great here. I just don't get it, I guess.

Patterson has had more than one bad year.

Gary Patterson has been at TCU since 1998. HC since 2000. I think the point is that many believe if a coach is at a school for that long, he is probably trying to ride it out unless something goes horribly wrong.
he also received a contract extension through 2022 in August of 2016

Our fans are retarded
They lost their star QB in the opener
Relied on a true freshman backup, who threw for like 300 yards
They hadn't played in like 3 weeks due to a bye and a hurricane
Jimbo is not a bad coach

We should've been on Patterson like white on rice at the end of 2015... especially when we looked like fools after letting Jimbo slip right between our fingers. Again. Instead, we let Patterson slip through our fingers to chase Herman and Jimbo slipped through our fingers again again. Our AD tried to save face again, and made it look like we were after O the whole time. Meanwhile, 3 other top notch coaches slipped through our hands and Herman used us as a bargaining chip to get what he really wants at the price he named. Gosh, how freaking inept we've been!!! Our offense is just following the lead of our football operations and AD.

I'm pretty sure at the time of our coaching fiasco Gary Patterson already had a statue at TCU. He ain't going anywhere. Nor was he ever.

I can't upvote you enough times!!
Gary Patterson has done more, with less, than any coach in the country. Alleva was just too dumb or too much of a pussy to try. I don't know if the fact of Miles and Patterson having the same agent had anything to do with it, but I'm positive Alleva is scared of Jimmy Sexton and other top notch agents.

It's almost like you didn't read the title of the thread.

And last year when they lost 3 more games (one by 40) despite having superior talent, they had an excuse then too right? What is he, 5-5 over his last 10? But he gets a pass because he won a NC with crablegs

Patterson does not want to leave TCU. Anyone who suggested him as a candidate for LSU's coaching search was delusional.

Do you really think as LSU was trying to fire Miles and letting him twist in the wind that Miles' then-agent, George Bass, was going to let LSU get Gary Patterson considering Bass was also Patterson's agent.
It's unbelievable to know so many of you people are so fricking dumb.

Fans are clueless and fickle.
Fans thought Dinardo was a great hire because the guy went to a bowl game at Vanderbilt. Fans thought Saban was a no-name disappointing hire. Fans wanted Kirk Ferrntz instead of Miles because he beat LSU in the Cap One Bowl. Just last week, people wanted Dan Mullen, the same Dan Mullen who lost to Kentucky last year and just got his clock cleaned by UGA.
The real secret is this: coaches alone don't build a winning program. It takes institutional support. This includes legitimate money spent on luxurious facilities and assistant coaches with a solid knowledge base and ability to evaluate. This also includes shady dealers who are willing to funnel money to recruits and those who can influence recruits.
People want to look at LSU's slide since 2011 and attribute it to one coach or one player's underperformance. In reality, it is years in the making. LSU has not kept up with competition in recruiting. Alabama's machine got cranked up full tilt, and that ended LSU's dominance. Auburn upped their ante to begin winning some head-to-head recruiting battles. Ole Miss went off the deep end in their efforts. Hell, even State has started winning some bidding wars. It's a competitive world, and money talks.
In the NFL, it's not about coaches. Any coach in the NFL knows just as much as the next guy. It's about asset management and talent evaluation. Same is true in the college game...unless you hire Curley Hallman of course.

Dude, you've been all over here defending Ed Fricking Orgeron. You actually think Mr. never won an SEC Road game is an elite coach LOL!
You have absolutely ZERO fricking room to shite on Jimbo Fisher.
