5 Over or Under?

With all the excitement of Canada's offense, it will take additional discipline that we have not had in the past.

It's not inconceivable to think that we maybe be more disciplined under a new staff. The question is, have Canadas offenses been undisciplined, that probably answers your question.

I thing having plays called and getting the O lined up with more than 5 seconds on the play clock will help.

I'd say more illegal shifts than anything.

I would think Canada would have something like that under control.

Should've started a "over and under the amount of time somebody shoes come untied during the game" it would be just as useful.

Btw, LSU was 14th best in the country and second best in the SEC in penalty yards per game last year.

I was thinking about posting this yesterday, but I decided to let someone else post it and get the downvotes that come with it!

There is a list of over/under things a mile long that could be thread starters . This is one of many . I do find them fascinating though ....

I couldn't find penalty yards going back past last year, but I did find penalties/game.
25th in 2016 with 4.8/game (down to 4.0 avg over the last 3 games)
121st in 2015 with 8.0/game

I can't make an argument after 45 seconds of research, but maybe the ole "Les' teams aren't very disciplined" theme has legs.

Discipline comes from the top. Coach O doesnt strike me as a detail oriented guy. They are going to have to prove it before I jump on the "they are a disciplined team" bandwagon.

2003 we ranked 87th in penalties per game. (Saban)

2007 we ranked 117th in penalties per game.

2011 we ranked 77th in penalties per game.

Point being, penalties dont effect the outcome as much as one might think.

Considering that we might be down to 3 OL, there will probably not be many false starts.

Way less than the previous 10 years I'd guess.

Good god this board is littered with folks trying too hard to be clever. You think you've unearthed some groundbreaking info that Canada has never considered or addressed in his 20 years of coaching?

Last year Pitt averaged 5.6 penalties per game, for an average of 49.77 yards per game. LSU averaged 4.8 and 41 yards per game.

In 2015, NC State averaged 5.4 penalties per game.

Different penalties come with different schemes.

False starts are common when you run a set formation and run the clock down, some guys get jumpy.

With a lot of motion and shifts, I expect we'll see an upswing in illegal motion, illegal procedure, and illegal formation penalties. Guys won't be set, 2 guys move, won't have enough men on the line, etc.
Probably see a lot early, as the team adjusts to the new schemes.

Really won't be shocked if we revert back to basic plays and formations in the early games; we should be able to just overpower BYU with Guice for example, but getting a bunch of penalties for illegal motion would kill that. I could definitely see the staff at some point saying "just line up and run X play", to get the game under control.

As a recruiting coordinator being detail orientated and organized is a really big part of it. O has plenty of experience in that.

It couldn't possibly be more than during Miles's tenure.
