MSU's #2 & #3 Starting Pitchers - How Good Are They?

Anybody know? I heard yesterday that MSU only has a couple of really good relief pitchers, and I believe one of them pitched last night.
I don't know how good their other starters are, though.

Average, we'll pitch by committee.

aren't they missing like 7-8 pitchers? Would any of those have been weekend starters?

They dont have #2 and #3 pitchers, they just throw relievers basically at this point. Our bats have to step up, because MSU won't be silenced all weekend.
They key for us is chasing McQuary off the mound after a few innings. If they have to go to their bullpen by the 4th or 5th inning, that's going to really hurt them. Plumlee is one of their better relievers and already burned up for the weekend. Self is their only other good reliever short of their closer Price. Everyone else's ERA starts at 4.42 and goes up from there.

They're average. Look for a sweep by the Tigers.

The guy throwing tonight, IIRC, has more walks than Ks

Tonight's starting pitcher for MSU, Denver McQuary, is a freshmen who has only started 5 games this season.
He's pitched a total of 39.1 innings and has an ERA of 3.89.
Opponents are only hitting .215 against him but his weakness so far this season is giving up free passes.
He's walked 32 batters and hit 4 in the 39.1 innings he's pitched.

hopefully we use a patient approach at the plate

I calculated his WHIP at 1.611, should be able to get some runs tonight. Gotta keep capitalizing with RISP.

Yes and yes. Put it this way, guys who pitched just a little in high school but play other positions had to become starting pitchers because of injuries.

Thanks to all. Here's hoping that LSU can sweep, and Fla/KY split their final 2 games.
I had heard about ALL OF MSU's arm injuries. I think those happened before Andy C. even arrived.

At least 2 of them. Center fielder Mangum and 2nd string 1st baseman Gordon have gotten weekend starts this season on the mound.

Their pitching is thin. Expect LSU to be swinging at lots of first pitches to keep their pitch-count low.
