NFL needs to find a solution to legal issues that arise so close to the draft

A more open Supplemental draft process is one idea

Sucks for him, no doubt, and it's unfortunate. This is stupid however. The saying "bad things happen to good people" is true. He got screwed. People get screwed everyday.

So we shouldn't try to find a solution to fix it? Because shite just happens? That dumb

It could be beneficial for teams and the player as well. If the teams could get some protection in case the allegation are true it would protect the players value while also not rewarding players who do get into real legal trouble

Of course we should try to find a solution. If you have a practical one I would love to hear it. shite happens in life, and I just can't think of a way to stop this type of stuff from happening. You can write the protection into contracts for teams, but the team still has to use a pick on that player. It may save them financially, but they gave up that pick that they could have used on another player. The only other way would be getting rid of the wage scale of the draft where you could pay a troubled guy 1st round money who you picked in the 4th if they are innocent, but that'll never happen.

A combination of contract protections (being able to void the rookie contract) and compensation picks could work.

If you can give out comp picks for losing FAs, I don't see why the same logic can't be used for losing rookies to certain circumstances.

Like a supplemental round after the fact for suspected felons that were ultimately exonerated. Great idea.

How about if you lose a player to legal issues that occurred within a certain amount of time before the draft, you get an extra pick at the end of the round you drafted the player the following year?
