Our outdoor unit is on its last legs (we were talking about replacing it prior to the flood soooo.... yeah).

The current unit is a 3.5 ton, 10 seer, freon-using system. Looking to upgrade to 3.5 ton 16 seer Rheem (using puron), estimates are coming in for the total job (both indoor and outdoor units) being $7k-$10k. Does this sound about right, high or low?

seems high, I upgraded to a 4 ton trane for 6500.00 last summer. Complete install and all piping were replaced due to the new freon.

I paid around 8/9 for my Trane a few years ago. That was with a lot of duct work and they had to rebuild the plenum.

Had a 3.5 ton 16 seer installed at our home in Tuscaloosa before we sold it. It cost us $6,500 in 2015. Included removal of old unit and replacing ducts.

People post "their guy" on here and proclaim them to be the best while being the cheapest...do yourself a favor and call Central Heating and Air...I bet they beat those estimates, and do it on a Trane to boot.

Just had a Rheem 3 ton 16 seer put in at my house in Georgia the first of April when my other one wasn't cost efficient to fix. I paid 4919 for outside unit and air handler plus all new piping and a wifi thermostat. Not exactly apples to apples but same unit more than likely.

I obviously don't live in your state bro but here in north Alabama that's pretty damn high. I have installed hvac systems for 15 yrs and I would call for estimates if I were you. I love the Rheem equipment too. I put a 14 seer trane split heat pump in my home but I would own a Rheem in a heartbeat.

Seems high to me bro. Shouldn't be no more than 6k unless the change out conditions would be a nightmare for the installers.

Glad I saw this. I'm in the same boat and the first guy is coming tomorrow to give me an estimate. If anybody has any suggestions for and AC guy in DFW let me know.

Rheem's a nice unit...probably second best manufacturer at the moment. However, I'd get pricing on a Johnson Controls brand (York, Luxaire, etc.) as they're the best on the market. On a side note, those prices you gave are a tad over where they should be.

I just replaced my ac at false river. Put in a 4 ton 16 SEER variable speed unit for $5,500 labor and materials. I should mention that I'm an operations manager for a multifamily construction company that builds about 2,500 units/year.... so that may have helped my pricing slightly
