The wages of sin is death. The answer is that we brought it on ourselves.

This is the best time to be alive, and this is the best place to live in.
Makes one wonder about the shite our ancestors had to put up with!

The greatest time in history was in the 90's. It was a great time to be an American (even with Clinton in office). That is just my opinion though. After the wall came down there was a sense of calm for awhile.
Best time of my life and I'm in my 40's.
I prefer the 80's.
The 90's, to me, was a really depressing decade, even though the economy was really strong. Then again, I was a teenager so my experience probably wasn't the same as someone who was already an adult. Pop culture in the 90's was just dark and depressing. Kurt Cobain offing himself with a shotgun kind of set the tone.
The truth is life is better today. For one thing, the crime rate is much lower than it was in the 80's and 90's and we don't have to rely on dial-up Internet anymore. Take a look at old video clips of New York in the 70's and 80's -- it was a complete dump full of homeless people, crack heads, murderers, trash all over the streets, etc.

It's better than the early 20th century.

massive social divisions
Social media and the impulse for so many people to share their every last thought on everything.
The hashtag has supplanted true activism by letting people claim to be part of a cause through tweeting rather than getting off their asses and actually doing something.
So now people can hide behind their keyboards and twitter handles and still let everyone know how angry they are about something, when in actuality most of them aren't mad enough to really get out and do anything about it.

How did the world become like it is today?
A lot of people standing around with their thumbs up their asses. Afraid to be insensitive, afraid to show any sort of leadership.

Corruption at the highest levels of government over the last 100 years or so. Pretty much sets everything else in motion.

Can't disagree with any of that. I lived through all of it. Remember it all.
Bro, I remember when dungeons of daggorath came out in the 80's along with poltergeist on the TRS-80 color computer. 80's were great indeed.
I am only making the 90's the best purely off of emotion
I won't argue that today is better because from a lot of standpoints it truly is in all manner.
I just liked the X-Files a whole lot.
