I'm all in for those Rebels tonight against Landry-Walker.
I believe they can win this game for sure and possibly win a championship. Will be watching it on the NFHS network and rooting them boys on.
What is telling is that both programs could have won both football and basketball state championships this year. Great programs.

Same two schools reach the state finals in both football and basketball in the "non-select" bracket. And I stress
non-select

When they hand out 30 trophies a sport, many teams can do both

No doubt. I am not disagreeing, but in basketball the public schools in 5-A have been pretty good, but Scotlandville was the driving horse and a thorn in Ouachita's side. West Monroe beating a very solid Ouachita team on the road is not small feat.
I get your point.. It is valid for sure.
It is still quite the accomplishment though. I thoroughly believe both West Monroe and Landry Walker could have competed against any of the "select" teams last year in football too.
Seeing you only have to win the same amount of games to get to the finals if all the teams were together in 5-A "non-select" in both football and basketball it really isn't that big of a difference.

Does Keytaon Thompson or Devonta Jason play for LW?

I don't think Jason plays basketball but I'm only assuming that bc he was at a football 7 on 7 tourney a week or so ago
Could be wrong though, I dno

Neither. Berzat is their star. Thompson did play and would have played but he is an early enrollee at Mississippi state.

West Monroe doesn't select anybody onto that basketball squad I guarantee you ..
They had 5 wins with this crew just a few years ago when they all started as sophomores and freshmen. Straight garbage. I saw it. They didn't go recruit anybody and the community isn't close to being as much apart of the basketball program than the football program.
As for Football they haven't had a superior recruit in years make a difference on the field. They get some transfers in every year as does every other school in the area, but the days of getting filthy talent seem to be over as a whole.
Neville, now they got Phidarian Mathis from Franklin Parish..

Difference in this case isn't that you're playing 5 games in the bracket, but teams get seeded a couple seeds higher than they would have been too...
Honestly with 8-5A's performance in the playoffs, I'd bet the house one of those teams wins it...

West Monroe was 15-15 coming into the playoffs. Landry Walker is the 22 seed. Maybe those particular kids are just great leaders/players when it comes to the playoffs. I know WM won in OT at home, by 4-5 on the road, and by 3 on the road to get here. It was WM's 2nd win against Ouachita in 4 years, playing multiple times each year.
They're far from a "Select" team.
