I had read this early. My take, they went down very fast. Ice and wind, then maybe busted a main intake water line with a fail high water alarm going off. Those boats pump a shite load of water thru their tanks to keep crabs alive. I'm talking about 1k gallons a minute if not more.

Prays for their familes.

She looks to be the same basic design as the Northwestern featured on Deadliest Catch. The wheelhouse is on the bow of the boat.

Depends on tonnage of vessel and if it is coast guard inspected or coast guard documented.

Electronic safety equipment on inspected vessels have battery backup. VHF radios, SSBR's, loud-hailer and AIS systems.

I'm sure the loss of power statement was to add drama to the "reality" show.

I think that's just acting for the show. Every offshore boat I've ever been on has had a waterproof hand held VHF in case all power is lost
