What a great American tradition before sporting events. Here are the Top 3, in order:

1) Whitney super bowl
2) Marvin nba all star game
3) lady gaga super bowl

Disagree? Go frick your self.

Way too many individuals today want to put their twist on how it should be sung. To me, the way Whitney sang it just sounded like she was so full of pride to be an American. Sometimes I'll listen to hers on my way into work, just as the sun is coming up. I reflect and think about how fortunate I was to be born in this country.

I disagree that it's a great tradition. It's a waste of time and pointless.

It's an anthem, not meant to be drawn out for aesthetic purposes. I appreciate all the different renditions of the anthem, but I'm sorry historically none of the recent renditions the OP is expecting as a response capture the actual tradition or intention of the anthem. Listen to a Marine Corps Band if you don't understand the distinction.

Technically a football game is "pointless" other than entertainment value. Showing pride in your country should not be viewed as pointless. I realize it's a free country but I guess being a veteran I hold some things more dear than others.

Nah, but what should happen is forcing the singers to just sing the got damn song as it was written. Quit trying to hit every single note across 4 octaves and show us how awesome you are, nobody GAS. You can sing, we already know that because you were chosen to sing today...just sing the song in a minute and let us watch the game. Nobody wants to hear 3 minutes of your own special rendition.

Well,I think America the Beautiful should be canned in favor of Drift Away, much better song.

Dobie Gray's version is the clear no. 1.
