Anybody shocked? I'm angry people didn't vote like I wanted on everything but the Homestead exemption for surviving spouses. I mean frick, I'm in school and want universities to be able to set their tuition.

Why, exactly?

So they get to set prices for state run and tax payer funded universities? Talk about taxation without representation

b/c we are 1 of only 2 states that still do this. Let the legislatures legislate. Let the universities universitize.

They have fluid expenditures, and have to go through the state to change them. It's a stupid, bureaucratic process full of red tape. Every student and teacher I know voted yes on that

In LA...every taxpayer pays tuition (to an extent). If you are letting dumbasses like FKing raise tuition then ultimately my taxes are going to go up.

If the universities of LA had any semblance of competent leadership that had shown the ability to make LA universities some of the best in their class in the country then I'd have voted for this amendment....they haven't. We have leadership, like FKing, who preside over things like the dumbass fiasco with Miles last year.

Now granted we do have a governor now that will bow down to these idiots....but I still have faith in many of our state legislators that we will eventually shrink the system and get some real value out of higher education in LA (granted it definitely won't happen overnight).

ETA Some of your teacher friends know that they are unnecessary and over payed at the college level. They voted for this because it is the best (maybe only) way to keep their gravy train rolling for the long haul.

I voted for yes on 2. However, the no winning provides a silver lining to me. Since it stays within the legislature, the legislature can't avoid the unsustainable higher education system we currently have. They will be forced to fix the problem (hopefully). If Yes won, the school boards would raise tuition sharply and overlook the amount of waste in higher education.

Tuition raises will not come from state funding. They are tuition raises coming from my pocket.

1) the higher tuition will force people into community colleges and weed the bad ones out
2) it will increase funding for the universities (I have actually seen the numbers and know exactly where they waste/lose money). A very, very select few are overpaid. The rest are overworked and underpaid
