I feel like this was discussed years ago...the possibility of playing multiplayer games with xbox and playstation users or computer games and xbox users

does this ever happen? i feel like it would be a terrible idea business wise

Final Fantasy XI was cross platform with PC and PS2 back in the day and they added Xbox 360 later.

I don't remember if the 360 version was crossed with the PC/PS2 but it probably was.

Rocket League has had cross-platform gaming for about 6 months now between XB1 and PC. Works great

It's been cross platform for PS4 and PC since release well before Xbox. The only reason the game is on Xbone is because Microsoft finally allowed it.

It works well for some games, FPS games would be a disaster.

I don't want to be on my console using a controller with input lag against some fool with mouse and keyboard.

Well you can use a monitor for console gaming? Also, PS4 already released a mouse and keyboard for its system so you could already be playing someone who is using one.

Cross platform gaming is more popular now than it was a couple of years ago. Technically it can be done but the problems usually arise elsewhere. consoles don't working with PC but Xbox and PS aren't crazy about working together. Depending on the game you want to maintain some competitive balance. I hope Destiny 2 is cross platform but I doubt they will let PvP be cross platform, maybe just PvE.

I feel like hell will freeze over before Sony and Microsoft allow cross platforming.

Regardless, sometime last year, before Rocket League dropped, I remember Microsoft and CD Projekt Red asking Sony to allow cross platforming because of CDPR's Gwent game and Sony had a promising, but very vague response:

quote:

“PlayStation has been supporting cross-platform play between PC on several software titles starting with Final Fantasy 11 on PS2 and PC back in 2002. We would be happy to have the conversation with any publishers or developers who are interested in cross-platform play.”

I mean, I feel like it's gotta happen eventually, no matter what.

EDIT: I also doubt Destiny 2 would be cross platform, primarily if Bungie/Activision do exclusives with Sony or Microsoft, which they likely will.
