Why are fans/media ignoring the horrific special teams play?

To me this is a huge red flag in a game that had so much prep time and so very little change from a season ago...a unit which can drastically change over the course of a summer.
Kick return coverage and Punt return coverage were both lackluster to put it lightly.
Josh Growden averaged 32.4 yds a punt and on 7 tries had 0 inside the 20.
Gamble continued to pooch balls that brought the opponents field position past the 20.
Peveto is a great recruiter but how does he continue getting a pass?
PS: since when do teams with the speed of LSU aim to kick every ball out of bounds on punts?

You forgot that we also played with 9 men on the field during a punt return.

No one I know is
But it starts with Les Miles he hired that joke of a coach Bdp and Cam and pays them so much money with so very little results. It's insulting really.

Isn't it kind of sad..
Two worse areas are special teams and the offense.. and he has his boys coaching both.. when both should not have been retained.. but BDP often gets a pass for his recruiting ground..

I did not notice this. last year, until the season end, they were terrible but it did not stick out to me this game.
now, as far as punting and kickoffs we are the worst in football. it's disgusting.

The shitty special teams play is a byproduct of Les/BDP trying to "reinvent the wheel" on that aspect of the game. Everyone in the NFL, and most major college teams, just line up and try to kick the ball through the endzone. There's no "scheme" on the KO. Just kick the ball through the fricking endzone!
As for the punts, either Les/BDP are now trying to "revolutionize" that aspect of the game as well, OR they don't have a punter on the team. If it's choice "b", then that is truly mind-boggling since it seems like LSU wants to sign a punter/kicker in every class!
Special teams require execution, but it shouldn't be an overly complicated part of the game. Les has somehow managed to overly-complicate a simple part of the game (special teams) and overly-simplfy a more difficult part of the game (offense)

les miles is also being racist when he says his punters have to speak Australian. I know he was joking but ignoring huge segments of a population has been proven over and over to be a huge mistake. we have now had 2 consecutive horrible punters from down under.
I guess miles likes to hear "my bad mate, 'ow 'bout we gather for stike n ayeggs when the match is over"

Didn't he drop one inside the 10 that led to the pick six?

This is all true. Les is so pig headed and has no imagination he thinks because he had success with one Aussie punter he needs to stick with it. Same with his offense he thinks because of 2011 he can try and win with that same offense and he won't budge.

They aren't. The in game thread was littered with this.

bc our entire play on all sides of the ball was hot gahbage

Trust me, the only person ignoring it is Miles.

Growden is so slow to get the ball off, it's only a matter of time before one is blocked, too, rugby style or not.
This is one of the problems of having someone with zero knowledge of the game. I'd be there are 30 kids playing high school football in this state right now that could do a better job, knows the game, and would crawl to BR to play for LSU.

yeah Les and BDP really do emphasize STs....they're just incredibly inept.

We just gotten numb to it. Been horrendous since the beginning of last year and zero changes have been made. Now it's just a given that we have to endure as LSU fans.
