Weber Genesis - Cast Iron vs. Stainless Grates

I've decided to get rid of my CharBroil TRU Infrared and have decided on the Weber Genesis.
The Genesis 310-EP has the stainless steel grates while the 310-E has the cast iron grates.
Which are better?
Also, is the Sear Burner on the 330 worth the extra money (I realize you also get the auxiliary burner for the 330 price)? How often do you use that?
Thanks in advance.

Yes. I have a stainless at home, and 2 of the others at work. I haven't had any probs with stainless. Had to replace the others

I've replaced the cast iron grates on my Genesis. Seems like the Weber site had them for $120. I opted for those in the link above (which were $31 when I ordered mine).
You'll most likely end up with stainless grates. My cast iron lasted 4 - 5 years, and I cleaned them after each use and re-seasoned about 1x a year. They were rusting and flaking too bad to cook on when I threw them out.

7mm stainless steel is what is listed in the description.

Not sure on the searing burner, but I just don't see how cast iron stands up to the outdoors long term, especially on a grill- you'd have to baby it big time, and oil it at least weekly even if you don't use it. Even then, the constant exposure to humidity (assuming you're in the Southeast part of the country) is bound to degrade it. Meanwhile, my 6 year old Weber Summit with stainless steel bars would look brand new if I hit them with a little oven cleaner. No rust/pitting at all.

I have a 3 burner Spirit with stainless grates. They've been used and abused for more than 8 years with no sign of quitting.

I have the stainless no complaints here.. Only thing that happened to mine in two years is squirrels or a rat chewed holes in the rubber on my knobs. Other than that all good no complaints.
