So I have to make cuts to my roster by this Friday, and I was looking for a little advice. This league is a little different because it is a keeper league, as well as an auction league. A keeper's value fluctuates based on their total fantasy points from year to year. "Franchise Tag" salaries also kick in after this season. If a player is rostered for three years, then his value will jump to the average of the 3 highest auction valued players at that position.

So this is what I'm looking at after cuts:

Phillip Rivers - $5
Todd Gurley - $38
CJ Spiller - $1
Karlos Williams - $1
Julio Jones - $62
Dez Bryant - $38
Randall Cobb - $40
Breshard Perriman - $1
Michael Floyd - $1
Eric Ebron - $2
Travis Kelce - $1
LA Rams D/ST - $1
Random Kicker - $1
Open -
Open -
Open -
Open -

This isn't ideal to go into the draft with only $8 auction money. Every roster spot has to be filled so the max I could bid on a player would be $5. I'm confident rolling out Gurley, Julio, Dez, Cobb (flex), and Kelce as my main group and getting wins. If i play the waiver wire right then I'll be just fine. I could also attempt to trade one of my WRs.

On the other hand, I'm also debating throwing Dez or Cobb back and trying the go for another decent RB. The only problem is that I know there's a few owners that will have a pretty large amount of salary to throw around at the draft. There's a strong change that I could get overbid on every good RB, plus not even be able to get Cobb/Dez back on my roster.

Thoughts? And TIA

So do you have to keep all of those guys?

I wouldnt keep the kicker, Ebron and Williams, just save yourself another $4

That will up your max bid a tad and likely allow you to add a decent RB2 and give you a strong starting lineup. Fill in a kicker on the back end

Wait until later in the draft when some of the guy with more money don't have a lot left so you can compete for a RB. There will be a few left if you have patience

I'm not keeping a kicker, but $1 has to go towards a kicker. Each roster spot has to be filled by the end of the draft, so I just put $1 there to keep track of what I'll have to spend.

I've considered throwing Ebron and Williams back...that would give me the ability to max bid $6 on a garbage RB

What does the pool of available players generally look like? Keeping Cobb for $40 seems outrageous. You could throw him back and probably get him for $20 or less I would assume.

Lions signed Boldin, that hurts Ebron. He's not that good anyway. Williams is overweight and Gilleslie seems to be their RB2. You aren't missing much losing them

And Cobb will certainly go for closer to 40 than 20

PPR or standard? Even in PPR I don't see him being more than a WR2 at the very best. Keeping a low end WR2 (in my opinion) for $40 just seems like too much, but if you like Cobb a lot then I guess I can see keeping him. I could just be hating on Cobb though.

Assuming at least 12 teams and PPR

I think Cobb prob goes around $35 with the ability to give you a better return of Nelson is healthy (big ??? Right now). Cobb was bad last season so I can see being down on him

I don't have a problem throwing Cobb back though considering he has dez and Julio. Could add a $20 RB and $20 WR and prob be better for it

I think this is changing my perception of it a lot as well. Especially with the rest of the roster, I'd rather get the second RB and then still have some decent cash to fill the flex.

It's hard to say. This is only the 3rd draft (2nd with limited pool) and we turn in our cuts blindly. Last year Calvin and Demarco Murray were the big names that got thrown back. I know Forte and Charles are getting thrown back this year, so those 2 and Zeke Elliot will be involved in the big $ bidding wars. There may be a few surprises thrown back but who knows.

I'm completely fine with throwing them back. It only adds an extra $1 to the max that I'll be able to bid one a player...filling out every roster spot kind of makes things challenging.

Jordy Nelson hurt his other knee today. Doesn't seem Serious but he's already hurt

That being said, Cobb had a pretty uneventful season without him last year

This is ideally what I want to happen, but its not a guarantee that I get a RB at that value. Feels like some of the guys are going to go all in on the available RBs.

Would I be crazy to throw back Dez and Cobb to shake up the auction bidding? It could allow me to potentially be able to compete for the top tier RBs, OR snag one of Dez/Cobb at a cheaper value?

Dez has as many question marks as Cobb imo

Doesn't have to be 20/20

WR is so deep, you can get a good one with upside for 5. Spend 35 on a RB

You have Floyd and Perriman. Floyd is an adequate flex play if need be and Perriman has a nice ceiling

And dez has never not been a top WR when healthy. I'm not worried about him
